The 55th episode of our 12 Questions segment features producer Subconscious Tales.

1. If you had to pick one track which solidified your love for electronic music early on what would it be?

Subconscious Tales: That would definitely would be final track from the Chemical Brothers mix compilation – Brothers Gonna Work It Out in 1998,
Spiritualized – I Think I’m In Love (Chemical Brothers Vocal Remix),
this track totally took me those days already when I was just a kid. Since that time electronic music was something special for me.
The funny thing ironically that the track name totally describes my first love for electronic music.

2. What was your first and last DJ gig?

Subconscious Tales: My first DJ Gig, was 6 years ago in small cafe bar in Riga (Meta Kafe) -, My last gig was around one month ago, residency in one of the biggest clubs in China, Donguan city (club 37.2)

3. What was the first and last record you purchased?

Subconscious Tales: First track I purchased was in 2008 – Believe by Paronator. Last track purchased: Andre Sobota, Nevee – So Intentional (Andre Sobota Remix)

4. What would you say is the highlight of your career thus far?

Subconscious Tales: Actually I had plenty times when I thought it’s my highlight. Had some great DJ gigs, but mostly it is because of my music production. Early days I thought it was great that Armin played my track remix on ASOT after my first EPs who’s all tracks in one release got in most sold TOP100 Breaks tracks. But now I think one of the highlights was my debut progressive breaks album release ‘Simplified’ or my chill out album release this year as well. Also, the born of my new, third musical project ‘Subconscious Tales’ is one of the highlights of my career.

5. Tell us something about yourself that might surprise people?

Subconscious Tales: Some years ago I composed a track for my very good friend – chinese girl (language teacher) in university, after she went back to China, I choosed to release this track on a Chinese label of which because after I got invitation to work in nighclubs in China. This oppurtunity gave me a chance to meet that girl again, which I thought was impossible that fast in that time, but it did happen. Now I live in China for more than year.

6. Who are some of the best undiscovered talents in your eyes?

Subconscious Tales: I am not from those who dig for a new talents every day (yet), but I have a friend, who is new as a producer and already are doing some serious quality tunes. I would definitely say that it is Gud Stuff, (G-Bus in soundcloud). In couple years his production has grown truly fast and now he is doing a really good quality deep house and tech house tunes.

7. Which producers consistently inspire you?

Subconscious Tales: There are so much producers whos tunes constantly are inspiring me. As a techno producer Cirez D is inspiring me a lot. Also in different variety of styles I like – 16 Bit Lolitas, Guy J, Cid inc., Marco Carola, Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha, Stelios Vassiloudis, Adriatique, Matt Lange,
and even Above & Beyound and a lot, lot, lot of more producers…

8. What artist or track would you love to remix? and who would you love to be remixed by?

Subconscious Tales: I would be very honored to do a remix for any major underground artist and I would be very honored also if any of them would do a remix for my track. But some dreams have came true already and the one who inspired me some years ago, lately just did a remix for my track.

9. Record labels are a dime a dozen these days and the majority of people feel most of them are mediocre music factories. Which ones if any standout for you?

Subconscious Tales: I think there is too much labels which will stand out from others. But of course there is no doubt about Bedrock, Proton music, Particles, microCastle, Sudbeat, Replug, VIM Records, Nueva, Maquina Music, Anjunadeep, Lowbit and many others. From more new labels I would say Suffused music.

10. What would you say is the best mix compilation of all time?

Subconscious Tales: Very hard to choose, but John Digweed’s Structures takes me away, I mean really far away…
