Andre Volodin – Altec (Balkan Connection)

Andre Volodin returns to Balkan Connection this week for a new 2 track EP. We last heard from the Russian producer in April when he released ‘Haldex’. Here the Green House headman gives us ‘Altec’ which comes with two new originals with remixes from Magnetic Brothers, Nicholas Van Orton and Mistol Team.

The lead track ‘Altec’ presents a great melodic and club friendly vibe. Bouncy progressive grooves along with dynamic stabs and clattering drums make for an energetic beginning. The melodic elements soon appear in sections; the pianos are quite tasteful and provide a hint of what’s to come. The main breakdown showcases the lovely piano perfectly along with the dynamic sounding synths. It’s a massive build and huge payoff with the stripped down but still romping groove crashing in for a huge moment. The first remix comes from the Balkan Connection SA headman Nicholas Van Orton. We love all Nicholas’ productions and they always come with a cool vibe that’s still aimed at the dance floor. His ‘Altec’ remix is spot on as usual with a driving groove that’s complemented with some gated vocal pads. It’s a really haunting sounding piece that has an amazing energy that just grows and grows. The atmospheres builds higher and as added bass tones enter the mix the groove is really incredible. The track reaches a smooth climax with some spacey electronics, grinding synths and cool chord changes leading the way. Top work from Nicholas. The second and final remix of ‘Altec’ comes from the Magnetic Brothers who we have been loving for years. The Russian duo remain one of the most underappreciated acts in electronic music. Out of all the mixes on the package theirs has the highest rating on our site and after a quick a listen it’s not hard to understand why. The unique and quirky nature of the track is incredibly catchy and it still packs an unbelievable driving energy. The vocal snips sound super fresh and the quick drops impact the energy levels mightily. Great stuff as usual from the Magnetic Brothers.

The second original on the package ‘Steptronic’ comes with a deeper and much more musical vibe. A set of well processed piano stabs provide some nice rhythms and the cool housey groove keeps things nicely on the dance floor. The lone remix comes from Mistol Team who is returning to Balkan Connection for his fifth overall appearance. The Argentinean producer has delivered a great melodic version of ‘Steptronic’. Warm chord changes, a rumbling bed of temperate bassy tones and a distinct summery vibe make for a great mix from Mistol Team. It puts an amazing cap on a great package from Balkan Connection.
