Christ Burstein – Paprika (Dopamine Music)

The 54th release on Nikko.Z’s Dopamine Music welcomes Christ Burstein to the label for his debut EP.

Christ Burstein - Paprika

Born in Argentina but now based in India, Christ has been a global figure in the world of electronic music for over 10 years. A discography of greater than 100 releases comes with regular support from Hernan Cattaneo, Jamez Zabiela, Luciano and Loco Dice, while his own Rural Records imprint remains a favourite in the underground. Now making his much anticipated debut on Dopamine Music Christ presents his latest three track EP entitled ‘Paprika’.

The release begins with its title and showcase piece ‘Paprika’ which finds Christ crafting a progressive techno crossover piece. Beginning with a momentous groove and quirky hooks it has an infectious energy straight way. As waves of percussion flow through the mix timely drops and dynamic fills light up the atmosphere before a band of modulation initiates the main break. Short and perfectly timed, the tension builds to a palpable point as a wall of white noise eventually drops out and the beats return for an exhilarating conclusion. A great start to the EP.

The EP’s second selection ‘Julchen’ comes in with a housier vibe and sits as a great complement to ‘Paprika’. It’s bright motifs and warm, fluid groove make it ideal for the impending summer season while a wonky lead adds a modern flair. Ever evolving the piece takes you on an unpredictable journey full of emotive moments and soulful vocal elements. A short yet timely break sets up a more twisted, design heavy conclusion that’s perfectly dialled for the dance floor.

The third and final selection ‘Simeon & Isabelle’ closes the release out on a smooth and soulful note. Deeper in design, it’s wavering qualities quickly become hypnotizing while indistinct hooks and granular sonics delight the senses every step of the way. However it’s methodical, slow burning build proves to be the highlight, peaking in the third act amidst an array of growling electronics and hopeful synths. A stunning EP from Christ full of variety and another excellent release from Nikko.Z’s Dopamine Music. Don’t miss it.
