Dio S – Una Happiness (Juicebox Music)

Praveen Achary’s Juicebox Music imprint was launched in February of this year. The labels first release from Praveen and fellow countryman Vipul was a huge success and has set the tone for the labels first year which promises to be one of the best from any new imprint in recent memory. The labels second release is out this week and it features a new single from Dio S. The Greek producers newest studio production ‘Una Happiness’ comes with remixes from Rodrigo Mateo and A U.

Dionisis Sternaras aka Dio S began his production career in 2009 with a string of releases on Movement, Baroque and Epsilon Trax. Over the course of the next 4 years Dio has built up and impressive discography with additional releases on Balkan Connection, Stellar Fountain and Lowbit. The Greek producer’s lush and deeply textured progressive sound shines on ‘Una Happiness’ which looks to be his most inspiring production to date. A spacious groove with a good amount of funk sits at the foundation while some rolling rhythms generate a solid amount of forward momentum early on. Murky electronics and a glimmering atmospheric back drop accent the piece as it grows towards the main break. The drop generates a wonderfully celestial vibe with the shimmering back drop providing an enchanting atmosphere. Layers of well sculpted synth hooks slowly build up through the atmosphere and reach a tastefully restrained apex where the hypnotic framework drops back in for what is sure to be a great dance floor moment. Definitely the best we’ve heard from Dio S. to date and one of the cooler productions we’ve heard this year in fact.

The first remix is supplied by one of the most hotly tipped producers of moment Rodrigo Mateo. The Argentinean producer has just come a string of incredible productions for Dopamine, Baires, Temporum and Sangria. Rodrigo’s new school progressive sound has been a firm favourite of Hernan Cattaneo’s in recent months and we have been loving the cool musicality of his productions since we heard ‘Stereotypes’ on Baires from last summer. Rodrigo’s ‘Una Happiness’ interpretation begins with a serene atmospheric vibe that’s filled with lovely aquatic sounding accents and a wicked hypnotic flow. Long trails of effects and heavenly sounds slowly surround the framework as the track builds a nice presence towards the drop. A bed of glacial textures and warm harmonies fill the expansive breakdown which is otherworldly to say the least. The track concludes with a rich emotional vibe as all the elements come together for one of the best goosebump moments of the year. Outstanding stuff from Rodrigo who is one of the most talented up and coming producers on the scene right now.

The final remix on the release comes from A U which is an experimental techno alias for India’s Audio Units. Ashwin Baburao and Ashrith Baburao make up the Audio Units production team and they hit the electronic music scene in 2011 with their debut release on Plusquam Records. Appearances on Bermudos, Spring Tube and Qilla soon followed and here they showcase their new alias with a superb rework of ‘Una Happiness’. A U have crafted a deadly groove with some well processed bass stabs and a wealth of psychedelic electronics surrounding it. Dark overtones, bright stabs and waves of menacing percussion carry the track though a groovy climax which is going to be an absolute bomb on the darker dance floors out there. An exceptional release from Praveen’s Juicebox Music which we actually like better than the first one, all three cuts are absolutely outstanding. Highly Recommended. Release Promo Hype Chart #7
