UK label 99percentrecordings has just come off what will go down as one of the most successful compilation releases of the year. The labels ‘TEN’ collection complied by label boss Mark B and mixed by Cid Inc. made it to #2 in the Beatport Progressive House chart and showcased some of the finest progressive and techno of the moment. The labels 12th release is out this week and it sees an extremely hot pair of Argentinean producers making their debut on the label. Luis Bondio & Cesar Lombardi have worked together many times in the past with spectacular results. Most recently the duo dropped ‘Incubus’ on Luis’ own Classound imprint which saw Marc Poppcke’s remix being selected as the #2 Must Hear Progressive House record for the week of its release. Luis & Cesar’s debut for 99percent is entitled ‘ Freak Motion’ and it comes with a remix from OMB.
The ‘Freak Motion’ original gets underway with some subtle atmospheric sweeps and a gyrating bass line that creates a vortex of momentous energy right away. As the intricate drum elements get added to the mix the groove really takes shape and the subtle synth hooks that meander through the piece complement it perfectly. The track strips itself down momentarily as a spacey synth lead along with some glassy keys get introduced. This ups the hypnotic factor of the track mightily and brings it to a short drop where some wicked modulation on the keys brings the gyrating groove back in for an exhilarating finish to the record. Luis and Cesar seem to get better and better with each successive outing and ‘Freak Motion’ more than confirms that. If you’re looking for something that’s perfect for today’s modern progressive dance floor you’d be hard pressed to find something better than this.
The lone remix of “Freak Motion’ comes from OMB who is returning to 99percentrecordings for his second appearance and first ever remix following his ‘Sea Air’ single from October of 2012. Daisuke Yamagishi aka OMB is one of Japan’s most recognizable progressive house / techno crossover artists and he’s come on strong particularly in the last year with releases on Flow, Particles and Baroque. For his ‘Freak Motion’ interpretation OMB has taken the darker, twisted undertone of the original and reinvented it with a slightly more melodic spin. Big chord changes, trippy melodic lines and some haunting pads provide a tasteful climax which pulls at your heart strings just enough and all without being cheesy in the slightest. Great remix from OMB and a smashing package from 99percent. Highly Recommended. Release Promo Hype Chart #2
