Madloch – Trial & Error (One Of A Kind)

One Of A Kind kicks off 2017 by welcoming Madloch to the label for his debut single.

Madloch - Trial & Error (One Of A Kind)

The Belgian artist looks set for the biggest year of his career. After spending most of 2016 retooling his sound there is a wealth of fresh music on the horizon and his Sound Avenue imprint looks to follow suit as well. Now we see the Jelly For The Babies and Bonaca manned imprint One Of A Kind presenting Madloch’s much anticipated ‘Trial & Error’ alongside remixes from Queemose and Vlada D’Shake.

Word has it that ‘Trial & Error’ was a highlight of Madloch’s recent Argentina tour and it’s not hard to see why. There’s a strong vibe locked inside It’s moody meanderings and spaced out electronics. It’s brooding storyboard grows with percussive waves and elastic sonics, flowing nicely into the main break. The short but timely centrepiece only intensifies the proceedings, just adding to its methodical build and ultimately sets up a third act full of dulcet hooks and quirky stabs. Definitely one for the heady listeners and dance floors out there.

The first interpretation of ‘Trial & Error’ is provided by Queemose who is making his first appearance on the label. The Italian artist and Arneo Foundation label boss had a strong 2016 with appearances on Bullfinch and My Little Dog. Now presenting his first production of 2017 Queemose takes ‘Trial & Error’ into more house oriented territory with great results. A radically revamped groove brings a ton of funk while the atmospheric motifs get represented nicely over the top. The rhythmic themes also carry well and the clustered claps are a nice touch, bringing a vibrancy and pop to an already lively groove. Great remix from Queemose.

The release concludes with Vlada D’Shake also making his label debut. The Serbian artist was once again recognised for his unique style all throughout 2016. Key productions for Praveen Achary’s Juicebox Music, Balkan Connection and new label Keep Thinking were all sensational. Here he gets 2017 off to a great start with a very cool interpretation of ‘Trial & Error’. Vlada’s quirky style seems tailor made for a track like this and the progressive sensibilities he’s brought to the production are excellent. From a well carved groove to acidic rhythms and eerie electronics there’s a lot to like. I’ve said it before but it applies here as well, the way Vlada incorporates vocal elements adds so much to his work and the storyboard here is excellent, never stagnant but constantly evolving, keeping your ears fully tuned for the entire duration of the track. A great remix to close out the release and a top notch offering from One Of A Kind as 2017 begins. Highly Recommended.
