Nick Warren & Guy Mantzur – Sad Robot (Bedrock)

Bedrock’s latest sees progressive stars Nick Warren and Guy Mantzur team up for the first time on ‘Sad Robot’, while Italian producer Musumeci supplies the remix.

This is Nick Warren’s first time on Bedrock since the wonderful ‘In Search of Silver’ a few years back, and it’s Guy Mantzur’s first outing on the label. The result is a really powerful slice of cutting-edge house music, with crisp, powerful percussion, melancholic melodies, a swaying, sexy bassline, and a deft use of vocal samples throughout. If you were expecting something really special from this duo, ‘Sad Robot’ won’t disappoint – it’s huge.

Musumeci’s version heads into melodic techno territory, playing up the melodic elements of the track while running them over a driving, hypnotic bassline and weighty bass tones. He really does a great job of taking immediately recognisable elements from Nick Warren and Guy Mantzur’s track and refitting them for a different dancefloor on this one.

I’ve got back and forth a bit on which version I prefer here, and currently it’s Nick Warren and Guy Mantzur’s original, but the real takeaway message is that you can’t go wrong with either on this fantastic release from Bedrock.
