NuFects – Rumors (Stellar Fountain Deep)

The latest release on Stellar Fountain Deep welcomes NuFects back to the label for a brand new single.

NuFects - Rumors

The Colombian duo last appeared on the long standing Hungarian imprint with a remix of ‘Zenith’ by Russian producer Ewan Rill. Now we see them returning for their third appearance and debut single entitled ‘Rumors’ alongside remixes from Some Little Things, David R. Maddocks and Owersound.

NuFects have always presented interesting music, something that steps a bit outside the norm in the progressive underground and they’ve certainly done again on ‘Rumors’. Beginning with tough beats the duo begins to explore an acid-like lead which takes the track on an unpredictable journey. Phasing vocals and percussion rides add nicely to it’s momentum as the main break approaches. Delightfully wonky, the break brings some tense moments, eventually revealing sheets of fuzzed out noise and that tough groove which is destined for dance floor success. A unique and massive sounding tune from NuFects and it fits Stellar Fountain quite well, I’ll bet label boss MiraculuM loved this one especially.

The three remixes provided do a great job at taking those distinctive themes and putting their own unique spin on them. First up Argentinean duo Some Little Things bring a smoother more hypnotic approach. The beefy, modular line comes off quite smooth and loopy while soft pads and offset hits add their own unique flair. Raspy hooks initiate the break, adding tension while bassy growls keep the groove locked. Subtle melodies drift through the framework and when the kick does finally drop back in it’s a great moment. Lovely remix from Some Little Things.

Next up David R. Maddocks makes his second appearance on the label following a remix of Ezequiel Anile ‘The Form Of Your’ in March of 2015. The UK producer takes ‘Rumors’ into tech house territory with a heavy emphasis on the acidic elements. It’s never ending storyboard of nasally quirks not only makes for a very compelling journey but a groovy one as well. Definitely a nod to the timeless connoisseurs out there and a great complement to the other versions here as well.

The release concludes with Owersound who is making his first appearance on Stellar Fountain. Under his new alias Russian artist Arthur Minnahmetov has more freedom to explore different stylistic blueprints. His most recent EP on Nikko’Z’s Dopamine Music left the melodic tendencies behind and focused on a contemporary club sound. That continues here with a more techno influenced interpretation that really rocks. The acidic themes are downplayed in favour of a smoother, rhythmic approach and some great vocal hooks, which fire away throughout the journey. Great design during the break teases the senses wonderfully while the percs keep the energy rolling. A quick build brings the groove back with some classy restraint and a warm bassy rush which takes you home. Superb stuff from Owersound and another very interesting, well rounded release from Stellar Fountain Deep. Don’t miss it.
