Ri Za – Sirius/La Mara (Stripped Digital)

Slovakia’s Ri Za serves up his second EP for Stripped Digital, featuring two hard-hitting but uplifting slices of cool, prog-tinged techno.

First out of the gate is ‘Sirius’, with intense ripples building over the percussion, before a chugging bassline takes things up a level. Hypnotic stabs come to the fore, accompanied by a light, floaty hook. The overall effect conjures up the feel of some classic techno tracks, but Ri Za gets the balance just right be nostalgia and freshness. Great stuff.

Flipping over to the other side, we find ‘La Mara’, which starts out deep and dubby, but quickly hits its churning techno stride, with a weaving hook and powerful bassline working really effectively together to create something pretty irresistible. And if the final drop doesn’t have you bouncing and throwing shapes, you’re probably made of stone.

This is a very cool EP from Ri Za and Stripped Digital, which is destined to do a lot of dancefloor-damage over the next couple of months, and beyond.
