The fifth release on Tim Penner’s Slideways Music welcomes Tiago De Renor to the label for his debut EP.
The Brazilian artist known for his productions as Renor and Lazy Kid now debuts his new and given name with a standout EP for Slideways. Included on the release are two brand new originals alongside remixes from Danny Oliveira and Paul Hazendonk & Noraj Cue.
The release begins with ‘Mill Row’ which finds Tiago crafting a new school progressive cut. What’s immediately striking is it’s melodic story board and punchy beats. Cascading bass tones start the journey off while some granular sweeps add wonderful grit to the groove. The shifty percussion and broken beat interludes keep the track incredibly fresh while the main break delivers a poignant theme just prior to some sonic deconstruction.
The second original is the aptly titled ‘Mad Symphony’ which again features a rolling cascade of bass notes along with stark percussion and a wonky lead which is absolutely fabulous. The magic moment comes during the main break with a slow emotional build and effervescent sonic mulch delivering what should be a special moment on the floor. Two unique and wonderful cuts from Tiago who you’ll no doubt be hearing a lot more from very soon.
The lone interpretation of ‘Mill Row’ is provided by Danny Oliveira who is making his first appearance on Slideways. Also hailing from Brazil and perhaps best known for his DNYO alias which delivered the timeless underground hit ‘Aquatika’, Danny now takes centre stage under his original artist moniker along with a new sonic approach. For his ‘Mill Row’ interpretation Danny has stripped the track right down and reworked the main elements with a more open and spacious feel. It’s powerful groove and eerie break are both highlights but what sets it apart is a spacey third act which takes you further in to the cosmos. Excellent stuff from Danny who continues to impress under his reinvigorated alias.
The lone interpretation of ‘Mad Symphony’ is provided by Paul Hazendonk & Noraj Cue who are making their debut on Slideways. The Dutch duo have been occasional studio partners dating back to early 2014 when their collaborative efforts became a huge part of Paul’s critically acclaimed debut album ‘Adapt’. Now we see with their first remix together in over a year and they’ve certainly delivered something special for the occasion. The duos driving peaktime interpretation sits nicely between progressive and techno. The distinctive lead gets teased in over the first act before coming into full prominence during the middle section, and eventually building to a sizzling climax at the five minute mark. Huge remix from Paul and Noraj which closes the release out quite strong. More excellent music from Tim Penner’s Slideways with Tiago De Renor definitely being a name to keep a close eye on. Highly Recommended.
