The 151st episode of our 12 Questions segment features producer Sea.
1. If you had to pick one track which solidified your love for electronic music early on what would it be?
Invisible Inc – Stars (Ambient Mix), by the artist also known as Barry Jamieson. I was 15 years old when Sasha played it as intro of his set at World Trade Plaza in Bucharest. I was so amazed by the sound, that after hearing it I decided to apply for Music Art school. This track literally changed my life.
2. What was your first and last DJ gig?
First gig – I was booked to play at Lord’s Club Oradea in Transylvania, summer of 2007. It turned out to be an awesome party! I’ll never forget it because the dj booth was at the ground level by the window, and since the club and first level were full, there were people dancing even outside! Crazy! That’s an experience that will stay with me forever.
Last gig – At the legendary La Mania club from Constanta, where Sasha played for more than 10 years every 1st of May, followed by an after party at Kudos Beach Club.
3. What was the first and last record you purchased?
First vinyl records – Sasha / Emerson – Scorchio (Deconstruction) and Pole Folder & CP – Apollo Vibes (Bedrock Records)
Last digital release – Vincenzo feat. Minako – Just Like Heaven (Dave DK Remix) (Anjunadeep)
4. What would you say is the highlight of your career thus far?
My career as a producer officially started in 2014. I worked with the label System Recordings and my tracks were remixed by amazing producers such as Verche, Stas Drive and Beat Syndrome.
I also received support from my idols Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, John Digweed, Barry Jamieson and Mitch Alexander. I’d say that having their support has definitely been a great start for my career.
5. Tell us something about yourself that might surprise people?
I love to cook, and listening to music while I’m cooking inspires me. If I love a track, I start singing lyrics on it and record them on my iphone so I don’t forget it. This way I can work on them later for my tracks. I know it’s funny but it happens a lot.
6. Who are some of the best undiscovered talents in your eyes?
I think there are lots of great djs and producers that people have heard of, but they didn’t get the promotion they deserve. To name a few… Beat Syndrome, Navar and Stas Drive, I wish them all a successful international career.
7. Which producers consistently inspire you?
Guy Gerber, Maceo Plex, Chaim, David August, Guy J, Robert Babicz, Adriatique, Sebastian Mullaert, Nils Frahm, M83
8. What artist or track would you love to remix? and who would you love to be remixed by?
I would love to remix James Holden – I Have Put Out The Light or Massive Attack – Paradise Circus
There are so many producers that I would love to be remixed by! But these names would be in my top list – Maceo Plex, Guy Gerber, Chaim, David August
9. Record labels are a dime a dozen these days, which ones if any standout for you?
Yes I agree! The labels that standout for me, in no particular order – Bedrock, Sudbeat, Diynamic, Innervisions, Rumors, Systematic Recordings, Visionquest, microCastle, Last Night On Earth
10. What would you say is the best mix compilation of all time?
There are so many of them that I love…. But I would go back to 1996 and say Sasha & John Digweed – Northern Exposure (CD 1,2) – the music there is out of this world and the compilation features great electronic music pioneers!
