The 25th episode of our 12 Questions series features Vladimir Mihajlovic aka Float. The Serbian producer has a brand new EP out this week on Sound Avenue’s Crossfade Sounds division. Please enjoy our 12 Questions segment with Float below.

1. If you had to pick one track which solidified your love for electronic music early on what would it be?

Float: I never liked attaching to one track or artist, but if I must choose one of them would be “Hydroponic Garden” album by Carbon Based Lifeforms. I was so intrigued by their ambiences and it brought me to electronic music more than anything before that.

2. What was your first and last DJ gig?

Float: First one was in a club “Namaste” in Belgrade in 2008, which was a very small place with incredible energy, now closed unfortunately. It was also the first time I played my music somewhere, since set was composed of my tracks only.

Last one was last Friday on “Svemirska Kafana” boat-club also here in Belgrade. I like to experiment with my dj sets whenever possible, so this time I explored broken beats of uk bass/techno crossover.

3. What was the first and last record you purchased?

Float: I am a huge downtempo and ambient fan and i buy mostly CDs in those genres, although from diverse influences. First one was “Prima Materia” by Bluetech. Last one is “Truth Be Told’ by ASC, an limited CD which went so fast, very glad i got this, one of my favorite
producers lately.

4. What would you say is the highlight of your career thus far?

Float: Gig-wise, that would probably be the opening for Der Dritte Raum this April, KPGT Belgrade. I played 3hr live+dj set with Vid Marjanovic before their live set and it all went really great, lots of great moments that night! Music wise, releasing my first CD album in 2010 was a good feeling, but I believe I’m yet to make the best stuff, so let’s see what happens.

5. Tell us something about yourself that might surprise people?

Float: I’m really fond of plants, specially herbs and succulents, and i grow a number of species in my garden. It is a relaxing and awarding experience, and it takes only half an hour of your time.

6. Who are some of the best undiscovered talents in your eyes?

Float: This is a hard one, there are so much great new producers out there! A successful producer should have music talent in one form or another, and I believe those who are talented will be discovered sooner or later!

7.Which producers consistently inspire you?

Float: Those following their vision and being unique. I am sure nobody has the same vision of music so I will never understand those replicating other people’s sounds.

8. What artist or track would you love to remix? and who would you love to be remixed by?

Float: Exoplanet is for example one artist I think remixing would be great, track doesn’t matter. It could work otherwise perfectly too, I think!

9. Record labels are a dime a dozen these days and the majority of people feel most of them are mediocre music factories. Which ones if any standout for you?

Float: It is tough to pick when you like many different genres, but those who stand out for me are those who release physical products as well. For example Silent Season and Ultimae, they care about art and packaging as much as about music. I really like this and wish more labels did it, even if it means just a few releases every year.

10. What would you say is the best mix compilation of all time?

Float: “WaWuWe” by Sebastian Mullaert from Minilogue is one I can think of now. That one works in many moods and that’s why I like it. Both CDs from The Renaissance by Nick Warren are brilliant too.

11. Current Favourites (you can list more than one per category if you like)

Food: Cheese, pesto and kulen
Drink: Kvas (all kinds)
Drug: Sounds
Animal: Cat
TV Show: Game of Thrones
Movie: I watched Blade Runner again few weeks back
Video Game: I haven’t played anything since highschool, but I always liked alien worlds from The Elder Scrolls.
Album: Martin Nonstatic “Back To Earth”
Track / Song: Maybe selfish to put my own, but right now I really like the latest remix i did for Anthony Yarranton’s “The Lounge”!
Producer / Band: ASC
Record Label: Auxiliary, Silent Season
Nightclub: Right now it’s very hot so I would rather choose any open air venue… if possible on some island far away!
DJ: Don’t have a current favourite

12. If the final DJ/live set of your career was next week what would your last track be?

Float: Next week? I guess that’s enough time to make the best track ever 🙂

Float’s ‘Dubitate’ EP is out now on Crossfade Sounds, you can purchase the release: here
