The ninth installment of our 12 Questions segment features Ivan Jamie aka Dark Soul Project. The Argentinean producer first came to my attention with his initial productions on Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic’s Mistique Music label many years ago. Ivan has grown immensely as a producer over the last several years and his productions are now routinely supported by Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J. He’s got a brand new remix out this week on Asymmetric Recordings; check our Essential Purchases section for a review and please enjoy our 12 Questions segment with him below.

1. If you had to pick one track which solidified your love for electronic music early on what would it be?

Dark Soul Project: I think one of the best tracks I have ever listened in my life and it was like a jump to start my way into this lovely world is Planet funk – Chase the sun, the chords of this track are so deep and emotional, so many great pads get you into a beautiful journey that when the breaks comes I feel like in heaven, or something so so wonderful that is really difficult to explain with words.

I had so many great moments with this track in my starts and I think I can’t get bored with it.

2. What was your first and last DJ gig?

Dark Soul Project: My first time at the twin tables was long time ago I think I was 14 15 years old. Electronic music in my country was really underground and I was like the different guy on my school class jejej. My starts was in some birthday parties, or some meetings between friends, I can’t remember which one was my first, but wasn’t a club I think was a garage jejeje.

My last gig was at club v 55 last Friday 21, in Buenos Aires, I played at the closing it was a nice experience small club , all friends, all music lovers, I really enjoy the night.

3. What was the first and last record you purchased?

Dark Soul Project: My first purchase was for sure an Echomen track I am a big fan of this old tracks in special trough to you, radar, perpetual , substance etc, I really miss that time.

And my last one I can’t remember now because I do not buy so much music, I receive promos from friends and most tracks I like are from them or any label I like send me some promos. Perhaps was any nice melodic house track Atapy feat. Sivesgaard – Beating Strong (Luis Leon Remix) this I love it. I was playing it a lot.

And was so so strong and even more when we finish the night playing together, I was choosing the music and he was playing some fx and percs live and I suggest him to choose a track and they told me continue like that , and was one of the best moments I had in my life spiritually musically and everything. In my starts I was growing up listening him Hernan Cattaneo, Digweed, Sasha, Nick Warren, Danny Howells and I am still following them are awesome.

Dark Soul Project: I think the success of an artist depends not only of his like and his humility to can improve his sound and make it better, I mean quality and learn of the ones like more, it depends also of try to have an equilibrium between the underground and the mass, I think a hit is that track that has the quality of a mass track and that any person can understand it, and has the technique and the avant-garde of a track that could be used of any underground dj.
