The 37th release on Just Movement finds the label kicking off 2017 with their much anticipated ‘Winter Sampler’.
Following on nicely from last year’s 10 track collection curated by label boss Alexisphere, the new year begins with an EP welcoming five new talents to the label (in alphabetical order) Andres W, J Sevilla, Jacob Singer, Tim Robert and Volkan Erman & Hypnotic Progressions.
The release begins with Argentinean artist Andres W who is best known for his progressive minded productions on Balkan Connection, Hydrogen, Stellar Fountain and Superordinate Music. His contribution here ‘Les Etoiles’ shows a deeper more emotive side of his studio repertoire with gorgeous melodies and sparkling motifs. Layered beats and a shuffling groove lead perfectly into a blissful break, ultimately culminating with a gentle rush of sonics and airy textures. A gorgeous start to the sampler.
Next up Jorge Sevilla aka J-Sevilla makes his much anticipated Just Movement debut with ‘Nova’. The Mexican artist has earned a strong following from the old school lovers with his productions on Abstract Space, Aeriform and Inmost Records. Now presenting some of his finest work to date in ‘Nova’, J-Sevilla explores the spooky realms of progressive house. Led by eerie motifs and rolling grooves it’s an unpredictable storyboard with new twists at every turn, not the least of which is a wonky break, which sets up a strong finale.
Selection number three welcomes Jacob Singer to the label following great releases on 3rd Avenue and Electronic Tree. The Spanish prodcuer has been one of the underground’s most loved artists with his deep progressive sound crossing over into other genres quite regularly. His contribution here comes in deep and driving with a meaty foundation and bands of effects leading the charge. It’s dense atmosphere is full of tension and mystery while distinctive vocals advance the storyboard into a dramatic break and thrilling third act finale.
Next up we head to the USA with well known artist Tim Robert making his second appearance on the label. Based in New York, Tim has grown into one of his country’s most recognized progressive house talents. With releases on Clinique Recordings, Suffused Music and System Recordings, Tim’s club friendly brand of progressive house is always much anticipated, and his contribution here ‘Flicker Fusion’ is another gorgeous creation. Tough kicks, a mountainous groove and fluid rhythmic structures make it immediately appealing, but it’s the indistinct melodic storyboard that ultimately wins your heart. Teased during a timely break, the ethereal motifs rise during an exhilarating third act conclusion that you won’t soon forget.
The release concludes with Volkan Erman & Hypnotic Progressions presenting their latest studio creation entitled ‘Burning Edge’. The sometime studio partners have found a home on Balkan Connection South America and Clinique Recordings where their progressive sound has flourished. Their Just Movement debut has been much anticipated and ‘Burning Edge’ comes in as one of the duo’s all time best productions. From its classic old school groove and twinkling melodies there is a lot to like but the spiralling synth patterns which brighten up the main break ultimately seal it’s brilliance. A gorgeous conclusion to the release
