In this exclusive interview, Saygın Karataş opens up about the inspirations, challenges, and creative processes behind the track, sharing a glimpse of their journey as an artist, dreamer, and storyteller.
Your upcoming single “As a Man” with Young Paris integrates a mantra frequency. Can you tell us more about the inspiration behind this track and what listeners can expect from its unique sound?
“As a Man” is a piece that reflects the challenging and transitional periods I’ve been through. When I got married, I was in a financially difficult situation, and this song represents a new beginning for the person I aspire to become. The stimulating sounds are entirely connected to emotions. For some people, my songs will remain just a feeling, while for others, they will hold a deeper meaning.
Can you explain the significance of the mantra frequency in your music and its intended effect on listeners?
Stimulating sounds and frequencies can reflect different emotions. I believe that the essence of music lies in feelings and storytelling.
How did the collaboration with Young Paris come about, and what was it like blending your electronic style with his distinctive Afrobeat influence?
When I first listened to Young Paris, the idea of making a song with him came to mind, and we made it happen. He’s truly incredible. I really admire his vocal style.
How has Lekke Records supported your artistic vision, particularly with “As a Man”? How did the signing come about?
Lekke Records is an innovative record label. I had been following and admiring their work. We reached out to them and made an agreement for As a Man. During this process, I always felt their support.
What inspired you to pursue a career as a DJ and producer?
When I first met my partner (now my spouse), I was telling her about my dreams and the things I wanted to achieve. Financially, I was in a bad place. She woke me up from my dream world and helped me reconnect with reality. I had no other choice in life—I had to succeed. This is what I want to do. Even in the most beautiful moments, I can’t stop thinking about music. I might be a bit obsessive about it.
Do you feel that your music tells a personal story? How does “As a Man” reflect your own journey or philosophy as an artist?
I don’t believe music is just about rhythm. I love works that have a story behind them. For some, they are inspiring, while for others, they are fun and emotional. As a Man is the beginning of my journey. When I fulfill my dreams, I think I’ll finally be able to drink my coffee in peace.
