The latest release on Balkan Connection finds the label showcasing three brand new interpretations of ‘The Warm Moods’ by Alex Villanueva and Kaban.
Originally released as the lead track on ‘The Warm Moods’ compilation from July of last year it showcased what so many electronic music fans love about the Mexican duo; tough, percussive grooves with a real nose for the dance floor. Now for Balkan Connection’s 323rd overall release we see brand new interpretations from qoob, Alex Nemec & Nik Feral and Diogo Ribeiro.
First up we have qoob who are making their first appearance on Balkan Connection. The Russian duo debuted the qoob moniker in January of 2013 with a release on Stripped Recordings and in a two year stretch have added several notable entries to their discography. Their ‘Desert Cry’ single on Asymmetric Recordings was one of my faves along with remixes for Sleepless Nights, Magic Room and Welcome Music. For their ‘The Warm Moods’ interpretation qoob have reworked the beastly original into a more tech house inspired affair. The spacious groove has some nice funk to it and works well with a band of rising atmospherics. A somewhat unexpectedly massive break delivers great anticipatory vibes and the large payoff should produce a great reaction on the bigger floors. Solid stuff from Qoob once again.
Another exceptional production duo Alex Nemec and Nik Feral are up next with a cool techy twist on the track. This marks Alex and Nic’s third appearance on the label following two previous compilation appearances in 2014. Alex and Nik began collaborating in June of 2013 and it’s been a run of solid productions ever since. Their remixes of Michael, Levan and Stiven Rivic along with originals for Sounds of Earth and Stripped Digital have been just a few of the standouts. For their ‘The Warm Moods’ interpretation Alex and Nik have stripped the track down into a melodious techno beauty. Roughly textured beats and grainy percussion make the minimalistic groove quite interesting and the vocal samples along with a warm motif add more than enough sensory stimulation. Awesome remix from Alex and Nik.
The final ‘The Warm Moods’ interpretation is supplied by Diogo Ribeiro who is making his first appearance on Balkan Connection. A long time staple in Portugal’s electronic underground Diogo is quite accomplished both as a producer and DJ. His music has been featured on Iboga Records, Flow Records and Tribal Vision while as a DJ he’s played many of the world’s biggest festivals such as Boom, Freedom and Utopia. Diogo capped off 2014 with a great remix of Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic’s Roll The Dice and quickly followed that up with a brilliant take on Jelly For The Babies & Amber Long ‘Inertia’ to lead the year off. The good momentum continues to roll here as Diogo has provided a powerful techno rendition of ‘The Warm Moods’. Backed by a full groove, noisy lines and a very well tailored collection of drums it’s destined to be great on a wide range of techno oriented floors. An assortment of rhythmic and percussive shifts keep your attention high throughout and a wide array of sonic designs (particularly in the third act) make for a great finale. Awesome rendition from Diogo and a great remix pack from Balkan Connection. Don’t miss it.
