Anton Dhouran – Tales Of Phyre (MNL)

The latest release on Paul Hazendonk’s MNL imprint welcomes Anton Dhouran back in the label for a brand new EP.

Anton Dhouran

The French producer had his first ever release on the Manual Music offshoot in August of last year and has since appeared on Diynamic and Global Underground. His contemporary melodic approach has been well received from various underground camps and his new EP for MNL looks to be some of his strongest work to date.

If you’ve listened to any of Anton’s past work you know he’s quite gifted in the melody crafting department and the first cut here ‘Mnesis’ is further evidence of that. Tightly wound beats, floaty vocal pads and a pristinely processed complement of drums lays down a wonderful foundation. It’s a spacious and airy groove which is ideal for all of Anton’s gorgeous instrumentation to work its magic. You can hear a broad range of influences emanating from this piece, there are enough soulful hooks and emotional twists and turns running through the production to satisfy even the most discerning melody connoisseur, and it plays like a piece of music rather than a track which is really pleasing.

The companion piece and also title track ‘Tales Of Phyre’ carries a similarly grandiose vibe. It’s slower tempo and lazy groove are immediately appealing but again it’s Anton’s gorgeous harmonies which really draw you in. Warm bass stabs and a light rhythmic approach carry the track effortlessly to the main break. Here breathy vocal pads and a shimmering haze push the emotion a touch higher and ultimately set up a gorgeous conclusion. Classy stuff from Anton which rounds out another excellent offering from Paul Hazendonk’s MNL. Highly Recommended.
