It’s nice to see so much inspiring stuff happening in Canada, some of the most unique and interesting labels over the last year have been Agara Music and Wide Angle Recordings. Both labels have consistently been delivering excellent electronic music and Agara’s output in particular has been quite varied. From contemporary sounding electronica to more traditional progressive and tech house Travis’ label has been a great addition not only to Canada’s fresh electronic music content but the global one as well. This week Agara returns for their eighth overall release and a new double A-side single from Arnim & Lynne.

Arnim first came to our attention with his appearance on Crossfade Sounds ‘Crossing Borders’ Compilation which was released in February of this year. The German producer has since had a nice run with releases on Stereo Paradise and Baroque. Here he teams up with vocalist Lynne whom he’s worked with once in the past for a release on Method. The duo make a great studio team as they’ve crafted two vocal beauties here. ‘The Moment’ is the first cut and after a DJ friendly intro the tough kick slowly gets surrounded with gorgeous parts. Warm rolling bass tones and soulful sax sections really stand out as do Lynne’s incredible vocals chops. The middle section is so refreshing with its broken beats and overall groovy nature which flows wonderfully back into the full groove and sax complement for a great finish. A gorgeous piece of music from Arnim and Lynne.

The second composition ‘Sun Gives Way To The Moon’ features much more of Lynne’s great voice. A set of plonky sounding keys drives the piece and provides a nice hypnotic component but ultimately it’s the rhythmic flow of Lynne’s vocals that really add such a nice groove to the track. There are also two instrumental versions supplied of both cuts for the less vocally inclined DJs out there which round the package out perfectly. You never know quite what to expect from Agara but if you’re a fan of quality electronic music, with ‘music’ being the operative word there then you should certainly be following this great label. Highly recommended.
