Artists Boycott Spotify Over ICE Ads | Spotify Faces Industry Backlash

Spotify is under heavy fire as artists boycott Spotify over ICE ads that many believe promote anti-immigrant rhetoric.

The backlash against the streaming giant has intensified across the music industry, as artists boycott Spotify over ICE ads, with both users and record labels joining the protest.

A Spotify spokesperson defended the campaign, confirming that the ICE recruitment ads are “part of a broader advertising initiative by the US government running across television, streaming and online platforms.” The company maintains that the ads do not breach Spotify’s advertising policies on “dangerous or derogatory content.”

However, critics argue that the content – featuring language such as “millions of dangerous illegals are rampaging the streets” – is inflammatory and contradicts the inclusive values many artists expect from the platform. Social media has filled with calls to cancel Spotify subscriptions, and a growing number of creators have withdrawn their music in protest.

Independent label Epitaph Records announced its withdrawal from Spotify in an Instagram post, stating that “artists and fans deserve platforms that reflect the values of the culture they sustain.” The boycott adds to the mounting pressure on Spotify to review its advertising partnerships and ethical guidelines.

Founded in 2003, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency handles immigration enforcement and cross-border crime investigations. The agency has faced recurring allegations of human rights violations, controversial deportation tactics, and poor treatment of detainees.

The artists boycott Spotify movement is now expanding, with fans, musicians, and advocacy groups calling for transparency in how Spotify selects advertisers. Many within the electronic music scene argue the company’s decision shows a disconnect between its corporate priorities and the community it serves.

Change Underground will continue reporting as the Spotify ICE ads controversy develops.
