Beat Syndrome – In Your Shadow (Movement Recordings)

The much loved Beat Syndrome return to Tash’s Movement Recordings for the labels 77th overall release. Toronto, Canada resident Hamed Safi aka Beat Syndrome first appeared on the label all the way back in September of 2010 with the ‘Lamp Of Lorezini’ EP. Since then he has gone on to deliver four more original productions and a remix of Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic’s ‘Rendez-Vous’. 2013 has seen Beat Syndrome grow into one of North America’s most well known and sought after electronic music talents. His new single for Movement entitled ‘In Your Shadow’ looks to be his most inspired work yet and comes with two top notch remixes from Nikko.Z and Yuriy From Russia.

Beat Syndrome has always had a genre defying sound and it couldn’t be any more evident on ‘In Your Shadow’. The sultry beats and warm bass tones set an inviting foundation for the tranquil atmospheres and whistle like hooks that shine during the first half. A sequence of funky stabs leads to the main drop where a gorgeous set of cascading pianos shimmers against the windswept backdrop. The pure serenity that Beat Syndrome has conjured up here is quite spectacular. Think of the Paul Van Dyk mix of Humate’s ‘Love Stimulation’ but in a much more subtle, refined and contemporary manner. This goes down as one of Beat Syndrome’s most musical and timeless creations to date.

The first remix is supplied by another long time Movement Recordings contributor Nikko.Z who is making his ninth appearance on the label. The Greek producer’s Dopamine Music imprint has grown into one of the finest progressive house labels of 2013 and Nikko’s productions continue to be a firm favourite of Hernan Cattaneo. For his ‘In Your Shadow’ interpretation Nikko has crafted a much techier and more percussive framework that has a great dance floor sensibility. The sultry hooks from Beat Syndrome’s original are used to perfection and complement Nikko’s flowing rhythms in a very dynamic way. The main break casts a slightly more ominous tone as it begins but as the plucky hooks and delicately processed pianos fade into the mix you’re left with a moment of absolute beauty. Incredible stuff from Nikko.

The second and final remix is provided by Yuriy From Russia who is making his second appearance on Movement. The Russian producers much loved deep tech house sound has seen him appear on Outside The Box, System Recordings and Mistique Music. For his ‘In Your Shadow’ interpretation Yuriy has taken all those lush elements from the original and laid them down nicely over a funky groove. In reworking the melodic elements into a mesmerizing vortex Yuriy has given the track a fresh hypnotic vibe that carries it though the first act and into the main break. The whistle-like accents accompany a heightened rise in tension and what follows is a classy sounding finale of bubbly textures and pure exhilaration.
