Belgium Techno Kingpin Frank Biazzi On Beating Tinitus

Hi Frank, tell us about you?

I’m a belgian techno DJ and producer. I gradually became a valued DJ and played in Belgium’s most famous, events and festivals, and at many different occasions abroad. I held also several residencies in reputable clubs. My first track “Turbulence” which was released by Lupp records has been played and charted by notorious DJs. This EP has given me notoriety on the international scene.

At the beginning of 2004, I had to put my career on hold because of serious ears problems (Tinitus). After 8 sabbatical years, I returned to my roots by performing in my preferred clubs and events. In 2013, I started my own label “Trauma records” which focuses on the same hypnotic and energetic techno that you can find in my DJ set.

What made you get in to dance music?

I’ve always been passionate about music. But when the New Beat was born late 80’S in Belgium, it was like a revelation for me. At that moment I knew that I wanted to become a DJ.

Where was your first gig?

My first big set was at a festival in France before thousands of people.

How difficult was learning to produce for you in the beginning?

It was very difficult. You needed a lot of synths and other expensive gear. It wasn’t affordable like nowadays. In the beginning, I invested all the fees of my gigs in equipment. I spent hours trying and testing my gear, to get to know all the possibilities. It paid off 🙂

You’re told us earlier you’re the label boss of Trauma Records. What’s the label’s mission?

My mission is to release high quality techno (quality over quantity). I like to work with people who already earned their stripes in techno, but it’s also very important for me to sign upcoming artists, to give them the possibility to develop their career.

You’ve recently remixed Durtysoxxx on his Funk N’ Deep label. How did you guys meet and what’s your view on the label?

We appreciate each others work and so we got in touch. So when he asked me for a remix, I agreed right away. He does a very good job with his label. Lots of top releases.

What’s the music scene like where you’re based and how often are you playing?

Belgium has always been a pioneer when it comes to clubbing and electronic music. There are a lot of parties and festivals. So, most of my gigs are in Belgium.

Which other DJs or producers are you liking right now?

I appreciate a lot of producers. If I have to quote a few names: Slam, Truncate, Mark Broom,…

What are your other go to labels?

Next to my own label, I signed on Tronic, Transmit, Kombination Research, MB Elektronics, Driving Forces, Alchemy, Rhythm Converted,… just to name a few

Tell us about your DJ setup

I keep simple. I bring my USB sticks, my headphones, ear protections and a great set 😉

What’s been your biggest achievement

The biggest event was “I Love Techno”. I mixed there two times. A nice memory

What can we expect from you soon

My remix for Durtysoxxx on Funk N’Deep is out this week, and in a few weeks my “Process EP” on Victor Calderone’s label MATTER +. Others releases are in progress…
