Change Underground returns with a manifesto for industry reform

The underground once stood for discovery, experimentation, and truth. Today, that spirit has been suffocated by corporate ownership, algorithms, and KPI’s.

Change Underground, the leading authority in independent dance music journalism, officially releases its 2026 manifesto for electronic music industry reform. Operating globally since 2013, the platform serves as the industry’s corrective lens, bypassing algorithm-driven hype to prioritize grassroots investigative reporting and authentic emerging talent discovery.

The 2026 Manifesto: Authenticity Over Hype

The underground isn’t dead. It’s buried underneath the noise. It lives in the small rooms, on the self-released records, and within the crews systematically excluded from the modern game. In an era where music discovery is flattened by cold algorithms and platform-dependent influencer accounts, Change Underground returns to highlight inequality.

“This is not a campaign against success. It is a demand for a fundamental recalibration. We return because we are the collective force demanding a return to foundational values.”

Change Underground was founded to challenge elitism and industry gatekeeping. Today, that mission demands action. As a high-integrity filter, our role is to surface talent based on cultural resonance rather than social media metrics. We prioritize “Slow Content”—deep-dive interviews, technical analysis, and curated narratives that build long-term connections between artists and fans.

Our Core Mission: Advocate, Amplify, Act

We serve as a trusted bridge to the industry’s inner workings, providing an unfiltered platform for the voices defining the next generation of dance music. We return with three clear directives:

  • To Advocate: We will tell the truth about the systems of inequality. Through independent commentary and grassroots investigative journalism, our editorial team provides accountability and insight into the social and technical movements shaping the underground.
  • To Amplify: We will champion the creators, spaces, clubs, festivals, and communities that prioritize underground talent over reach. Through our global discovery ecosystem—including high-visibility premieres and dedicated podcast series like CU Techno, RISERS, and CU Selects—we provide a stage for the “New Faces” of the scene.
  • To Act: We will foster ideas that lead to practical, sustainable solutions. Going beyond the music, we share real-world artist intelligence—covering digital sovereignty, D2C strategies, equitable revenue models, and mental health in touring. We will work with the industry to implement a fairer scene.

The time for quiet complaint is over. The recalibration starts now.

“Dance music’s soul is not for sale. We have returned to reclaim it.”
