D-Eye – Silver Moon (Balkan Connection)

d-eye, silver mon, balkan connection, beat factory, miraculum, fiddler,

The 291st release on Balkan Connection is out this week and it features the return of D-Eye to the label. Russian producer Aidar Davlethanov aka D-Eye had a great year in 2013 with his ‘Pulse’ single seeing it’s release on Darin Epsilon’s Perspectives Digital in March. D-Eye’s latest single for Balkan Connection is entitled ‘Silver Moon’ and it comes with remixes from: Beat Factory, Miraculum and Fiddler.

D-Eye has always had a meticulously polished production style. This dates back to 2011 when he was announced the winner of the Lowbit Records / Bastards of Funk and Sonic Union remix contest. He has only improved since and a relatively quiet year thus far has resulted in one of his best ever studio creations ‘Silver Moon’. Backed by a tough wobbly groove and a tight framework of drums the energy out of the gate is quite exceptional. Soft atmospheric overlays and warm textural swells add a serene emo-vibe as the track slowly begins to take shape. This leads to a main break of spaced out soundscapes which expertly transitions back into the wobbly groove which now comes with a nice set of chord changes. It makes for a strong and emotionally stimulating finish which would have to be one of D-Eye’s best to date.

The first remix is provided by Beat Factory who are making their second appearance on Balkan Connection. Adel ‘BiG AL’ Ghandour and Levente ‘Human8’ Szabo make up the Beat Factory production moniker and have over 120 releases over the course of their career which dates back to 2009. The duo have been regular contributors to labels like Baroque, Nueva, AlterImage and Big Al’s own Ready Mix imprint. Their ‘Revelation’ LP released late last year on Baroque Records was one of the year’s best and most well rounded collections of music and their remix here hits the spot as well. Beat Factory’s deeper, more stripped down take on ‘Silver Moon’ is a great complement to the bigger more progressive oriented original and as always the duos intricate drum work really shines here.

The second remix on the release is provided by Miraculum who is making his seventh appearance on Balkan Connection. Hungarian producer Gyorgy Udvardy aka Miraculum is one of the owners and founders of Stellar Fountain which is arguably one of the underground’s most interesting labels. Their spaced out brand of all things deep and progressive has been a favourite of mine since the labels inception back in 2011. Miraculum has always had one of the more unique production styles out here as well. It’s a sound that is certainly unique to him and his attention to detail and sound design always makes for a great listen. For his remix of ‘Silver Moon’ Gyorgy has recreated the simple emotions from the original and expanded on them massively. A complement of cinematic atmospheres and cascading keys set to a foundation of undulating bass stabs highlight for me what is the most interesting production on the release.

The third and final remix of ‘Silver Moon’ is provided by Fiddler who is making his fourth appearance on Balkan Connection. In addition to an excellent single for Deersky’s Soundteller Records the Hungarian producer has delivered excellent remixes for Mistique Music, Liquid Grooves and LuPS Records all in the last couple of months. Fiddler’s smooth atmospheric sound has lent itself quite well to ‘Silver Moon’. His bubbly underbelly, subtle vocal accents and washed out atmospheric sweeps put a wonderful twist on the original and close the release out on a high note.
