Lonya’s Asymmetric Recordings returns this week with a new double A-side release from David Calo.
Hailing from Argentina David first came to my attention with his ‘Slowly EP’ released courtesy of Axon Records in August of 2012. The next two years saw David develop his unique take on deep techno with releases on Change Audio, Crossfade Sounds, Dopamine Music and Rhythm Inverted being some of the highlights. For his Asymmetric Dip debut David presents his two latest studio creations entitled ‘Singular’ and ‘Not For Me’.
David’s most recent work was a remix of Mononoid’s ‘Lack Of Evidence’ which was released courtesy of Proton’s Particles. It showcased David’s hypnotic techno style perfectly and proved to be a winner on the dance floor. On ‘Singular’ we see a decidedly deeper approach which is equally satisfying. The production immediately stands out; there’s a widescreen appeal here that makes it pretty clear David has logged a lot of hours in clubs over the years. This track is made for a dance floor and it’s spacious framework lets the rhythmic constructions shine, it’s subtle build is cool and classy which should prove prefect for late night or back room action.
The companion piece ‘Not For Me’ comes with more of a techno sensibility all while keeping things deep and cool. The main break is where the real magic begins, warming synths gently wash over the stripped beats as they drop back in momentarily. What follows are waves of drummy builds which eventually peak to reveal an even funkier groove, this pushes the energy up a notch and takes the track to a nice finish. Two solid cuts from David who continues on a steady rise with his unique blend of contemporary sounds. Don’t miss it.
