Denis A’s DAR Digital returns this week following a nearly 3 month break. Label boss Denis just released his ‘Other/Another’ double a-side on parent label DAR with great success. The release was not only well received critically but also enjoyed great chart success on Beatport. The 23rd release on DAR Digital sees the label showcasing some fabulous up and coming talent. Deepnavy returns to the label for his second appearance and his sometime studio partner on this project Stas Karpenkov makes his first appearance. Deepnavy and Stas first collaborated together for Igor Cold’s ‘Somebody’s Story’ imprint in November of 2011. Together the Ukrainian duo have crafted ‘Seven Suns’ for DAR Digital which comes with a remix from Monkey Brothers.
The ‘Seven Suns’ original is a deep but very much techno influenced production that carries a solid number of ideas and really great atmosphere. It’s a very delicate sounding piece with every texture and detail seemingly processed to perfection. The techno inspired drums have a nice granular coating on them which really offsets the otherwise incredibly smooth surroundings. The remarkable thing about the production is the ease at which it drifts through various sections of soft stabs and meandering atmospheres. It’s an ideal warmup or mood setting piece that’s sure to create the necessary vibe for starting out a great night.
The lone remix is provided by Monkey Brothers who previously appeared on DAR’s ‘Kazantip Anniversary’ compilation from last December. Brothers Ruben & Sergio Pellon created the Monkey Brothers alias in 2005 and have had a long line of great releases over the years for Tendenzia, Regular and Parallel Label as well as many others. It’s a welcome surprise to see them with a remix here as we’ve always loved their brand of quirky tech house and techno. For their ‘Seven Suns’ interpretation Monkey Brothers have provided a deep techno rework with some lovely dubby qualities. The underlying rhythms are completely mesmerizing and really seem well suited to a trippy back room environment. The track is not without some discernible tension though as the waning atmospheres do create some nice brooding anticipation which should be perfect for building a proper set. A great release from DAR Digital to close out 2013 and we hope to see more releases from them next year as the label was a bit quieter this year than previously.
