It has been a long stretch between releases for Denis A’s DAR imprint, 11 months to be exact. The labels ‘Kazantip’ compilation hit the streets in the third week of December last year and was easily one of the year’s best compilations. This week sees Denis returning to his home imprint with a brand new and much anticipated double a-side release entitled ‘Other / Another’.

Denis’s ‘Not The Album’ was released in February of last year (on DAR Digital) and it was a dark, challenging experience for the most part but it was not without some moments of beauty as well. The intense journey which led to the collection’s final and most emotional piece ‘Voices’ was truly incredible and Denis’ newest productions seem to in a way carry where that left off.

‘Other’ sees Denis with a much more laid back summery sound which is absolutely gorgeous. Big spacious beats and charming pads lay down some warmth early on. The playful rhythms soon build and a lovely vocal element is introduced. This brings the track to the main drop where the enchanting soundscapes take over and cast a wonderful serenity over the piece. The beats eventually drop back in and the cool 80’s vibe is born once more for a smooth and soulful sounding finish. This is a very adventurous track from Denis and it’s turned out spectacularly. The companion piece ‘Another’ brings a very similar vibe that is equally great. The rolling bass stabs are one of the major differences here; warm and bursting with character they give track a much fuller scope. The addition of some spacey electronic accents pushes the track even further into the sonic spectrum and should sound absolutely amazing on a sun drenched beach. Two top notch cuts from Denis and a very welcome return for his great DAR imprint. Highly Recommended.
