Clinique Recordings welcomes back East Cafe to the label for part two of his ‘Hurt’ single.
The Hungarian producer and Time Capsule boss had a very memorable 2014. Not only did it see the birth of his first label imprint but the year was also marked with releases on Golden Wings Music, Proton Music and System Recordings. East Cafe’s ‘Hurt’ was originally released in June of 2014 and here it gets new life with two fresh remixes from Erdi Irmak and GMJ.
East Cafe’s always been a pretty diverse producer. Over the years we’ve heard traditional progressive, deeper grooves and varying ranges of downtempo, electronica and breakbeat productions come of his studio. They are all of remarkable quality and what’s really striking is how original his work sounds. ‘Hurt’ goes down as one of the Hungarian’s deepest productions on record. Backed by a sultry, well carved foundation this one, like almost all East Cafe productions, has incredible groove. The rhythmic components are incredibly strong as well and make for a smooth but engaging ride. It’s the way all the components play off each other and subtly build in unison that really makes this such a groovy record. Outstanding stuff from East Cafe.
The first interpretation of ‘Hurt’ is provided Erdi Irmak who is making his fourth appearance on Clinique Recordings. The Turkish producer closed out 2014 with one of the finest releases of his career. Erdi’s ‘Inner / Inside You’ double a-side offering on Paul Hazendonk’s MNL imprint was exceptional and it followed more magic in the form of ‘We Won’t Sleep Tonight’ on Hugo Ibarra and Uvo’s Intemporal Music. Erdi’s interpretation of ‘Hurt’ comes off incredibly strong as well. The Turkish producer’s always had a way with making trippy designs remarkably club friendly and he’s gone even deeper than usual on the ‘Hurt’. After a DJ friendly intro a short break introduces some lovely tonal textures. A subtle but remarkably moving rhythmic complement then sets the piece in motion and in turn develops a wicked hypnotic swing that’s quite delicate and refined sounding. The long trailing tones and escalating rhythms are super fresh and not only are they a pleasure to listen to but should be ideal for late night dance floor play. Superb stuff from Erdi.
The second and final interpretation of ‘Hurt’ is provided by GMJ who is making his first appearance on Clinique Recordings. The Aussie based producer has been a fixture of the progressive house scene dating back to 2008 when he first appeared on Open Records and Vapour Recordings. Over the next six years GMJ productions were quite scarce until last year when he added seven remixes and ten originals to his discography. Already in the 2015 groove the Aussie producer is fresh off an outstanding remix of Reflection Soul for Balkan Connection.GMJ certainly keeps his hot streak intact with a wicked interpretation of ‘Hurt’ here. Aptly titled ‘Pain Free’ GMJ’s mix takes those great elements from East Cafe’s original and reshapes them into a deep and dreamy journey. Long storyboard effects, rugged grooves, well textured rhythms and a shimmering complement of synths makes for a wonderful alternative to the previous two mixes. Brilliant stuff from GMJ and a great release from Clinique Recordings. Don’t miss it.
