Equilibrist – Right Singals (Baroque Records)

The latest release on Baroque Records sees the storied UK imprint introducing a new artist to its fan base. Equilibrist made his production debut on Attary Records in May of 2013 with his ‘Flight Attempts’ EP. The minimal, hypnotic grooves were quite unique and it’s great to see Baroque giving a talented up and coming artist the spotlight here. Equilibrist’s debut EP for Baroque is entitled ‘Right Signals’ and it comes with two brand new original productions.

The title cut leads the EP off and you can immediately tell that Equilibrist’s sound has really grown in the last year. The acidic bassline is loaded with shape and the surrounding electronics have a wonderful glisten about them that really captivates you. The truly unique thing here is how there are so many potential genre descriptions. There are elements of techno, progressive and tech house all rolled into one which should serve a broad range of DJs really. The ascending chord changes provide some monumental builds on several occasions and keep the energy levels peaking for the 10 minute plus duration. Really cool stuff from Equilibrist. The companion piece ‘Become Yourself’ is another epic with a long running time and story-esque quality about it. The range of themes and moods which flow through this particular piece are just as good if not better than ‘Right Signals’. Some of the hypnotic qualities have a slight Petar Dundov vibe which is a great thing and the brooding undertones are equally spectacular. Two solid cuts here from Equilibrist and I can’t wait to hear more from this exciting new artist. Major props to Baroque for showcasing this hugely up and coming talent. Highly Recommended.
