Particles revisits label-fixture Exoplanet’s ‘Great Adventures’ EP from May of this year, turning over two of its hazy electronica cuts for more floor-oriented reworks from Dmitry Molosh and Luis Bondio.
Dmitry Molosh takes on ‘You’re a Star’, and I can confidently predict that it’ll take precisely one minute to appreciate just how amazing a job he has done on this. At that moment, the trancey vocal line rings out for the first time just as the monumental, hypnotic bassline establishes itself. That’s the core of the remix, though Molosh makes terrific use of Exoplanet’s bendy, spacy synth melodies, as well as working some of the other melodic ideas from the original into a superbly moody and haunting breakdown. The upshot is a deeply gorgeous gem, which shows that proper progressive house is still very much alive and well.
Luis Bondio offers up his ‘Welfare’ remix of Exoplanet’s ‘Intrepid Traveller’, setting the original’s atmospheric pads and rippling synths over a pulsing bassline, while working the track’s main melody into a near-psychedelic chiming hook, and with trippy woodwind sounds adding something special into the mix.
Both remixers have done a terrific job reworking Exoplanet on this great release from Particles, with Dmitry Molosh slightly winning the day for me. It’s hard not to suspect that Part 3, with remixes of the beautiful, acidic ‘Flux of Nature’ is already in the works – based on the strength of this, I’m looking forward to it already. 8.5/10
