The latest release on the System Recordings finds the long standing US imprint welcoming Fernando Olaya back to the label.
The Colombian producer last first appeared on System in April of this year with a contribution to the ‘New Dimensions 15’ compilation. The track ‘Analog Experience’ turned out to be one of the highlights on the collection and was loved by progressive DJs for its contemporary hypnotic grooves. Fernando’s new ‘The Alquimist’ EP for System Recordings sees ‘Analog Experience’ getting showcased once again as the lead piece along with two brand new selections which complement it very well.
The warm, driving groove of ‘Analog Experience’ may be one of Fernando’s best studio works to date. The two new tracks included here certainly rival it and also show the versatility that Fernando is becoming so loved for. ‘Basic Soul’ slows the tempo down quite a bit and features a slightly funkier band of rhythms. A complement of trippy bells and gorgeous vocal pads lead the piece into blissful territory while the underlying groove delivers the necessary oomph to keep things on the dance floor. A lovely track from Fernando. The EPs closing and also title track ‘The Alquimist’ is definitely one of Fernando’s most ‘feel good’ studio creations to date. The liquid-like synths which have become a trademark of the Colombian’s productions are one of the standout elements here. An ever evolving sequence of modulation keeps them super fresh and they play off the epic piano style stabs wonderfully. It’s a fitting conclusion to three standout productions from a producer that is really starting to come into his own. Looking forward to hearing more from Fernando in 2015. Don’t miss this EP, there are some real gems here.
