One of the more interesting releases this year was UK producer Fractal Architect’s ‘Crystalline’. The two track EP which came courtesy of Paul Hazendonk’s Manual Music showcased a unique blend of candy coated melodies and emotional energy. It not only came from a fresh new name but also left electronic music fans wanting to hear more of his extraordinary studio skills. This week Fractal Architect returns with a brand new and much anticipated EP entitled ‘Overcome’ which includes two brand new original productions.
The two cuts included here serve as a bit of a prelude to his upcoming mini LP due later this year on MNL. For anyone that loved ‘Crystalline’ you’re bound to love ‘Overcome’ and ‘States of Matter’ as well. The lead track ‘Overcome’ is highlighted with gorgeous, rolling arps and a tough, techno inspired framework which comes with a touch more dance floor sensibility than the cuts on his previous EP. Angelic pads and softly textured keys make for a blissful breakdown and the second half finale takes things a notch higher which waves of percussion and more enchanting melodies. The companion piece ”States of Matter’ ups the tempo slightly and presents and a more fluid, atmospheric take on techno. The subtle melodic themes and sparkling keys are an absolute joy to listen to and the old school robotic vocal elements add just the right amount of character and uniqueness to the piece. Both of Paul’s Manual Music and MNL imprints have always been a place for both cool, contemporary club music and slightly left of centre electronica. UK producer Daniel Watts aka Fractal Architect seems to have found a great home here as his interesting take on electroncia fits quite well. Outstanding release both for the club or your iPod. Don’t miss it.
