From Tech House to Vinyl: Alden Song Shares His Preferences

Alden Song, a young talent on the Electronic Music scene, continues to carve out his place within the genre, focusing on building his list of live performances and production catalogue. With a decade of experience under his belt, Alden Song brings a thoughtful approach to his craft, balancing the energy of live performances with the technicality of studio work. In this exclusive interview, we sit down with Alden Song as he shares his preferences on everything from Tech House to digital gear, giving us a glimpse into his creative process and the tools that inspire him.

Live DJing or studio production?

Although I love both, I have to pick live DJing. The energy I get from being in the booth DJing to a crowd is a feeling I can’t get anywhere else. Plus, when I’m DJing, it inspires ideas that I take to the studio.

Tech House or Progressive House?

Definitely Tech House. It’s the music I primarily like to play when I’m DJing. But I’m really not a fan of genres because I like all kinds of music.

Ableton Live or Logic Pro?

Ableton Live! It’s my primary DAW because it’s what I started with. Every time I use Logic Pro, I feel like I’m new to producing, haha. I plan on learning Pro Tools in the near future!

Vinyl records or digital tracks?

I’d choose digital tracks because that is how my current DJ library is stored, and you can get more creative while DJing because you have all the equipment –  bells and whistles to use. However, I love collecting vinyl and have a huge collection; it sounds so good!

Collaborations or solo projects?

Solo projects because I like to execute my ideas and productions the way I like. I can lock myself in my studio and get into a groove. Collaborations have been great because I get pushed into a different way of creating when vibing with other artists.

Big festivals or intimate club gigs?

Both, but I love playing intimate club gigs because there’s a better connection with the people on the dance floor, and if you have the right lighting, it’s a whole other level of experience. But one day I’d love to play a huge festival because I love that level of production! It’s a great way to experience music.

Sampling or synthesizing?

Synthesizing because I get to create the sounds from scratch.

Digital or analogue gear?

Digital, because the possibilities are endless! I do use analogue gear in my setup but less often. I’ve used some amazing classic outboard gear and loved it, so when I have the funds, I can see myself using a combination of digital and analogue gear.

Original tracks or remixes?

Original tracks because, most of the time, they are better!

Short tracks or extended mixes?

Extended mixes, because I get to hear a more complex version of the record. It’s hard to get into a piece of music that’s short. I know the trend is 2-3 minute songs, but that’s more about the business of music rather than music.

As Alden Song continues refining his sound, his passion for both DJing and production remains at the core of his musical approach. Whether through his solo projects or live sets, Alden Song’s commitment to pushing his craft forward remains evident, cementing him as a talent to watch closely within Electronic Music. So, with our interview coming to a close, we thank Alden Song for his time and eagerly encourage you to keep this skilled Producer and DJ on your radar, making sure to stay tuned to his journey by following him across social media today.
