Future Motions feat Leo Savan – The Way You Look (Sound Avenue)

Sound Avenue returns this week for the labels 23rd overall release. The elite Belgium based label continues to expand its far reaching sound with a new single from Future Motions. UK based Phil Joannides has long been one of the most under rated and underappreciated producers in progressive house. His studio creations are always immaculately crafted and come with a maturity and dance floor sensibility that is really rare nowadays. Sound Avenue is pleased to present Future Motions latest collaboration with vocalist Leo Savan who previous to going solo was in a band with Florence Welch from ‘Florence and the Machine’. Together the duo have crafted ‘The Way You Look’ which comes with remixes from: Beat Syndrome and Mehmet Akar.

The classically styled lines of ‘The Way You Look’ are immediately refreshing. Soft bassy tones and cool vocal elements accent the tightly constructed framework as the track gets underway. Soft hypnotic synths create some great momentum while fresh electronic stabs provide some of the best hooks you’ll hear all year. The track then strips itself down as it moves through a series of emotionally stimulating chord changes. As the framework eventually drops out a cool vocal gets introduced which adds an entirely new dynamic to the piece. The punchy groove quickly reappears and as the electronic elements build back up around the framework the undeniably catchy vocal hook returns for what results in a tasteful conclusion to this future classic.

The first remix is provided by one of Sound Avenue’s primary and most loved artists. The Canadian duo Beat Syndrome have just come off one of their most well received records to date ‘Tsunami’ which was released just last week. With a full banner feature and an inclusion in the 10 Must Hear Tracks of the week the release was highly touted by Beatport and a long list of DJs as well including Hernan Cattaneo, Anthony Pappa, Microtrauma and Darin Epsilon. For their ‘The Way You Look’ interpretation Beat Syndrome have given the track much more of an atmospheric presence. The poignant groove and rhythmic stabs keep things firmly on the dance floor all while incorporating an escalating melodic tension. The serene sounding backdrop continues to grow and evolve as the records momentum builds exponentially. The main break serves as the ultimate emotional relief with the tension filled groove dropping out and the unquestionably cool vocal adding just the right amount of lustre.

The final remix on the release is provided by Mehmet Akar who has long been considered one of Turkey’s most talented electronic music producers. Winning Sasha’s Burn Studios remix competition along with key releases on Outside The Box and Manual have kept Mehmet on top of everyone’s hype list. Add to that a recent EP for Sound Avenue which was heralded by many as the most contemporary and timeless sounding music that has ever come out of the Turkish producers studio. Mehmet’s ‘The Way You Look’ interpretation brings an electric sounding vibe that is absolutely deadly. Dark character filled tones along with shuffling drums provide a menacing energy which drives the composition throughout. Long sheets of wonderful noise dominate out of the break while warped elastic sounding synths melt your senses for an all round brilliant climax. Unquestionably Mehmet’s most ambitious work to date.
