Released yesterday without advance notice, Oberwave Vol. 7 celebrates nine years of curatorial exploration with a wide range of electronic aesthetics—from EBM to dark disco, electro and synth-laced breakbeat. The tracklist includes artists such as Fleisher, Metakross, JG Outsider, PTICHKA3000, Roliva, Aurum Miles, Díaz Tech, Gegen Mann, Ivan De La Rouch, PVLOMO, Ubre Blanca, Morze, and Akrav.
But it’s Gameboyz who shift the dynamic entirely with “Propel In The Head”, a hybrid cut that blends indie dance foundations with an unexpected, tightly programmed break section. The sonic twist comes courtesy of guitarist Javato (Javier González), whose angular riffs tear through the rhythm with a raw, almost post-punk edge. Both Javato and Gameboyz hail from Badajoz, and the local synergy shows—this is not polished for export; it’s authored with personality and urgency.
The track resists algorithmic structure: build-up, drop, loop. Instead, it curves, fractures, and rebuilds itself mid-way. Amidst a compilation of well-crafted textures, “Propel In The Head” stands out for its narrative, not just its sound design. It’s music for DJs who value disruption with purpose.
