The latest release on Balkan Connection finds GMJ returning for a brand new single entitled ‘Distance Pass’.
The Aussie producer remixed Reflection Soul’s ‘Raft’ in January of this year and has since appeared on Clinique Recordings and Particles. GMJ’s latest ‘Distance Pass’ marks his first single for Balkan Connection and includes remixes from Marcelo Paladini and Erdi Irmak.
GMJ’s last production ‘Hidden Hearts’ (courtesy of Particles) was a deep, mid-tempo groover with angelic vocal elements and dreamy designs. ‘Distance Pass’ carries a similar quality but with a more traditional progressive house tempo. It’s driving wall of bass and tantalizing melodies are immediately enticing but it’s the smooth rhythmic quality that really sucks you in. Soft tones and some unique vocal elements shine through an energetic first half and the short breaks seem to come at precisely the right moment to keep the energy soaring. Wicked stuff from GMJ.
The first interpretation of ‘Distance Pass’ is provided by Marcelo Paladini who is making his seventh appearance on Balkan Connection. The Argentinean producer is fresh off the release of his ‘Librarians’ single on Just Movement last month and also has 2015 appearances on Golden Wings Music. ‘Librarians’ definitely featured a fresher, melodic sound from Marcelo and his ‘Distance Pass’ interpretation is well in line with that. Backed by a traditional prog house groove and very airy dynamics it doesn’t take long for you to get lost in the wonderful textures and sounds this has to offer. Long effervescent sweeps and soft vocal pads make for a wicked backdrop while a strong complement of rhythmic elements drive the track forward. The main break is brief and just serves to build some atmospheric tension before the tough beats and dreamy sound college takes you home. Strong stuff from Marcelo.
The second and final interpretation of ‘Distance Pass’ is provided by Erdi Irmak who is returning to Balkan Connection for his seventh appearance. The Turkish producer is on the cusp of his second album release (courtesy Movement Recordings) and also released an electronica EP on Paul Hazendonk’s Manual Music in March. It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard a new club production from Erdi so his remix of ‘Distance Pass’ is a welcome one. It offers something quite different than the previous two versions as it conveys a much darker more techno inspired sensibility. It’s chuggy groove somehow reminds me of Peace Division in a way and the chanty vocal stabs give it a wicked hypnotic effect all the way through. Excellent remix from Erdi and a top release from Balkan Connection. Don’t miss it.
