Jaap Ligthart has been on a massive roll of late. The Dutch producer who has been much loved for his many bootleg reworks never seemed to have a lot of officially released music. That is until recently. In the last few weeks there has been a steady flow of new Jaap material and the entire electronic music underground is grateful for it.  The Dutch producer’s remixes for Agara Music and BC2 were both sensational and his new ‘Victory’ EP for 3rd Avenue looks to be even better.

The title track leads the release off with a well polished progressive groove along with some uniquely crafted electronics. The hooks are plentiful and the subtle modulation keeps your interest peaked. The shining star here though are the incandescent sounding tones which drift through the framework. They carry such a dreamy quality and offset the mildly warped electronics perfectly. The short break comes with a cool build and the heavily stripped down return is more than welcome. A very well constructed track from Jaap. The companion piece ‘Filthy Boots’ is more in line with what I expect from the Dutch producer. Tightly constructed tech house with a lot of intricacies and aimed squarely at the dance floor. The rhythmic elements are incredibly strong here with a vibrancy and pop that summon mass amounts of energy. The general quirkiness that you expect from Jaap is quite evident here as well which adds a nice funkiness to the production. Great to see some new original material from Jaap with two strong cuts that complement each other very well. Solid stuff from 3rd Avenue.
