Jack Carver’s stage name nods to a digital hero from the 2004 video game Far Cry. “He’s a guy lost on a wild island, trying to survive by any means necessary,” Jack explains. “It’s a bit like me and my music – I had to get lost in the jungle of techno and find my own style.” The alias captures more than nostalgia; it encapsulates the ethos behind his approach: exploration, risk, and discovery.

Sonic Roots and Environmental Inspiration

His relationship with techno is rooted in curiosity. Growing up in France, Jack and his friends absorbed electronic music at LAN parties, sneaking in tracks from the US. Early influences like deadmau5, Aphex Twin, and Jon Hopkins shaped his appreciation for innovation, while contemporary artists such as Dax J, Perc, and Nina Kraviz continue to inform his sound.

But Jack’s production philosophy is broader than influence. “A sensitive piano that reminds me of my mother, a theme about bee preservation, or climate change – these things all make their way into my tracks,” he says. His creativity extends visually too; all his SoundCloud covers are digital drawings of his own making.

The High Stakes of Production

Before music, Jack’s world revolved around gaming and poker. He was a professional online poker player, translating the game’s highs, lows, and calculated risks into the rhythm of his compositions. Discovering Ableton 9 in 2015 was a turning point, though the learning curve was brutal. Two years of trial-and-error honed his understanding of chords, piano, and musical harmony – disciplines that now underpin his live shows.

Latest Release: “Galactik”

Jack’s latest track, “Galactik,” channels cinematic wonder into sound. Inspired by Interstellar, the track’s kick is “both heavy and light at the same time,” capturing the sensation of traveling through a wormhole. The improvised ending embraces subtle chaos – a moment where the music nearly loses itself, only to reemerge with emotional resonance.
