JJ Grant – Waves Of Life (Mistique Music)

The 361st release on Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic’s Mistique Music is out this week and it features the debut of a new producer to the label. Jeremy Grantham aka JJ Grant hails from Detroit, Michigan and has recently returned to the progressive house scene after a long hiatus. Originally a DJ in and around the state of Texas JJ took some time off to finish school and pursue many other goals. He has since moved to Michigan and reignited his passion for music, his unique DJ sound can already be heard on InsominaFM, DI.FM, Frisky Radio and Innervisions Radio. JJ’s debut EP for Mistique is entitled ‘Waves Of Life’ and it comes with two brand new original productions.

‘A Broken Life’ leads the EP off with a cool hypnotic groove that’s accented with some warm bass stabs and rolling rhythms. The track build nicely with waves of percussion, emotional chord changes, escalating melodies and a cool breakbeat section that drops in during the first half. Muffled vocal samples accent the relentless club groove perfectly as it approaches the main break. Here the soft atmospheric backdrop leads to a longer broken beat section which builds some nice tension as the tough beats and meandering melodies work their magic. The rolling groove reappears and the momentum grows even further as the record climaxes with an exhilarating melodic finish.

The companion piece ‘Walking On Waves’ closes the EP out in very strong fashion. A charged bass line with killer undulating grooves deliver a nice amount of dance floor funk while some glimmering melodic accents add just the right amount of colour. As the composition builds a section of soft rhythmic stabs adds to the already hugely momentous nature of the track. Sweeping synths and bubbly electronics play off each other perfectly as the track reaches the main drop. Here another gorgeous musical interlude takes shape with an abundance of textures and cool electronics filling the air. The rolling hypnotic rhythms build as a celestial sounding pad ascends from above and provides what should be a goosebump moment on your dance floor. JJ’s conjures up a great finish with everything coming together for an unforgettable cosmic experience. Two notch tracks from JJ who we expect to be hearing a lot more from as 2013 moves forward! A great signing for Mistique Music. Highly Recommended. Release Promo Hype Chart Top 25
