Russian producer K.Oshkin makes his debut on Ireland’s Sleepless Nights Recordings with ‘Follow The River’.
We last heard from the Sleepless Nights Recordings crew with their massive ADE compilation in October. The Irish imprint not only presented an impeccable collection of fresh progressive music but also released it as a DJ mix from label bosses Soulfinder and Vincent Furlong. This week sees Sleepless Nights returning with their 25th overall release which features the debut of K.Oshkin to the label.
I first heard about K.Oshkin when he appeared on Balkan Connection’s ‘Connections XVI’ compilation which was released in May of this year. It was the Russian producers first release and he has since went on to record EPs and singles for Inmost Records, Stereo Enchained and Mystic Carousel. His debut EP for Sleepless Nights is entitled ‘Follow The River’ and it comes with three brand new original productions.
K.Oshkin has a sound that really fits the Sleepless Nights Recordings mould. His classic take on progressive house is full of wonderful melodies and a lot of the time great vocal elements as well. The EP’s first track ‘Breeze’ exemplifies that perfectly. It’s bouncy groove and playful melodies are complemented beautifully with lush vocal gates and a serene atmospheric back drop which is warm and inviting. It’s a great start to the release and it sets up the second selection and also the EP’s title cut ‘Follow The River’.
This one comes across a little bit deeper and more housey. A rhythmically appealing groove lays down a great foundation and where ‘Breeze’ was pretty heavy on melodic content ‘Follow The River’ excels just on the strength of a great vocal and strong electronics. The EP’s third and also final selection ‘Starry Attraction’ is next and goes even deeper with a lazy, laid back groove and some quirky yet sparkling melodies. Again there is a prominent vocal element with several cool robo-snips leading to a breathy showcase which might be one of the best on this vocal heavy EP. It’s seems as though at lot less DJs have not picked up on this but I could see all of these tracks crossing over into the house and even trance arenas. Solid EP from K.Oshkin and a great release from Sleepless Nights Recordings.
