Khen and Sonic Union – Introspection (Replug)

The 29th release on Cid Inc’s Replug imprint sees a fresh collaboration between two of the scenes most exciting producers. Hen Falah aka Khen is one of the most touted up and coming producers from the talent rich Israeli electronic music scene. Working solo or sometimes in conjunction with Guy Mantzur Khen’s productions have appeared on Whose Haus, Movement, Lowbit, Somebody’s Story and Bermudos. He’s also a regular behinds the decks at one of Israeli most famed venues ‘Cat & Dog’. Erik Pettersson aka Sonic Union has been a major force in electronic music for many years; as one half of the famed duo Bastards of Funk & Sonic Union Erik productions have been played by Carl Cox, Hernan Cattaneo and Sasha. Khen and Sonic Union’s first collaboration together is entitled ‘Introspection’ and it comes with remixes from Cid Inc. and Tommi Oskari.

Both Khen and Sonic Union have been praised for their unique progressive sound which combines funkier grooves with blissful melodies. Their collaboration ‘Introspection’ displays that perfectly with a drummy groove that’s rooted with a thick rolling wall of low end frequencies along with some bassey wobbles which accent the foundation nicely. Sheets of cinematic atmosphere and deep set vocal elements carry the track through to the main drop. Here the composition moves through a hope filled ambience with the drums and undulating bass stabs keeping the groove locked. A slow and deliberate build reveals the warm groove once more which flows through a cinematic climax that should delight the contemporary floors out there.

The first remix is provided by Replug label boss Cid Inc. who by all accounts has been on a major roll to start 2013. Cid Inc’s first three remixes of the year have all been selected as Beatport’s number one Must Hear Progressive House record for the week of their respective releases. For his ‘Introspection’ interpretation Cid Inc. has delivered a growling bass driven monster of remix. The vocal elements have been processed with an eerie character while the cinematic synths from the original have taken on a slightly more ominous tone over Cid Inc’s futuristic groove. The main break paints a marvellous sonic picture with an abundance of glitchy electronics and an understated melody building some slow and steady dance floor tension. The gargantuan groove drops back in amidst a haze of granular sounding atmospherics for what should be epic moment on your dance floor.

The final remix on the package comes from Tommi Pirinen aka Tommi Oskari who is making his first appearance on Replug. The Finnish producer made his production debut just a mere 16 months ago but has already compiled an impressive discography of 19 releases which showcases his deep sound very well. For his ‘Introspection’ remix Tommi has crafted an up-tempo rework that makes great use of the vocal elements and atmospheric parts from the original. The addition of some well carved acid lines adds some nice depth and character to the composition. Tommi’s also provided the most emotionally stimulating break down on the package with some well textured pads and heartfelt chord changes which will certainly light up a packed room. Highly Recommended. Release Promo Hype Chart Top 25
