Koer – Apocalypse (DAR Digital)

We last heard from Denis A’s DAR Digital in April of this year when the label presented its DAR Digital Showcase. The collection still looks to be one of the most impressive compilations of the year and Fran Von Vie’s ‘Omega’ remains an office favourite to this day. Now after a 5 month hiatus DAR Digital returns with a new single from Koer who is returning the label for his fourth appearance. The Russian producer’s new single is entitled ‘Apocalypse’ and it comes with remixes from Nikolai Marti and Beeswax.

Koer’s productions have never been limited to just one sort of sound. The Saint-Petersburg native always experiments with a wide range of sounds and genres which has earned him many fans over the course of his two and a half year production career. On the aptly titled ‘Apocalypse’ Koer has explored the more sinister and starker sounding electronics. The futuristic groove is surrounded by a good complement of grainy textures and generally corrosive sounding electronics. It’s one of those tracks that will completely change the mood of the room in a heartbeat. The darker dance floors out there should absolutely love this one. Great stuff from Koer.

The first remix is supplied by Nikolai Marti who is making his first appearance on DAR Digital. We first heard about the Nashville, Tennessee resident with his ‘Lily’ EP which appeared on OLD SQL Recordings in July of this year. For his ‘Apocalypse’ interpretation Nikolai has crafted a tough, driving rework that complements the original version very well. The beefed up percussive framework sounds absolutely monstrous and should be a great peak time record for the more adventurous progressive or techno DJs out there.

The final remix on the release is provided by Beeswax who is returning to DAR Digital for his second appearance. Alex Pavlov aka Beeswax had a very strong last couple of years with a string of exceptional releases on Vazik’s ‘Sounds of Earth’ imprint. His ‘Newborn’ track also received heavy support from Umek who played it both in his live sets and on his ‘Behind The Iron Curtain’ radio show. Here the Russian producer closes the release out with a very strong remix of ‘Apocalypse’. It’s a much more minimal take on things and complements the previous two bigger constructions very well. The dark ominous tones are well maintained but the stripped groove makes it ideal mood setting material. A great release from DAR Digital and expect to be hearing a lot more from them soon as they have a bevy of top releases in the pipeline. Highly Recommended.
