Lex Algorithm | CU Selects 05

Lex Algorithm is not interested in the ego of the DJ booth; he is interested in the transmission of data.

A graduate of Mexico Cityโ€™s prestigious El Bedroom academy, the producer and DJ Lex Algorithm has spent the last two years engineering a sonic identity that resides at the uncomfortable intersection of Berlin industrialism and Mexican heritage. His sound is a clinical execution of “controlled chaos” – a space where industrial order intentionally collapses into organic energy.

For the fifth instalment of the CU Selects series, the Mexican based artists delivers an hour-long ecosystem of sound that reflects the density of his home in CDMX. Growing up surrounded by the raw noise of the streets, he learned to find rhythm in the brass of mariachi and the chaotic hum of urban life. In this exclusive mix, he translates that environment into a relentless industrial pulse, featuring a number of unreleased original tracks that offer an exclusive window into the projectโ€™s future.

“The collision happened when I realized that the claustrophobic, intense feeling of a packed Berlin club isn’t too far off from the sheer density of Mexico City. Berlin techno provided the structure – the cold, calculating algorithm – while my local surroundings provided the blood and the groove. I wanted to see what happens when you inject warm, Latin soul into an icy machine.”

Technically, Lex Algorithmโ€™s work is a deconstruction of memory. On his debut EP, From the Algorithm, he treats traditional Mexican brass and trumpets as raw audio material rather than instruments, pitching them down and saturating them until they function as industrial klaxons. This hybrid approach extends to his use of AI, where he prompts models for cold, detached spoken-word vocals regarding systems and logic, before warping them in Ableton Live to achieve a “human-machine pulse.”

“When you remove the face, the ego dies, and the listener is forced to focus entirely on the sound. The mask isn’t about hiding; it’s about shifting the spotlight. The algorithm doesn’t care what I look like; it only processes the data I feed it. By embracing that anonymity, the music becomes a universal language.”

The Selects 05 mix operates as a breathing ecosystem, pairing cold, industrial rollers with tracks possessing unexpected, organic Latin undertones. It is a continuous push-and-pull that refuses to let the listener settle. By including unreleased material, Lex ensures the mix is more than just a curated set; it is a live demonstration of his technical workflow and a challenge to the global perception of Mexican electronic music.

“The machine computes the pulse, but the blood dictates the groove. As I look toward the future, I’ll always ensure that there is at least one element in every track that fights against the machine’s absolute precision. We want to prove that our heritage is what ultimately makes the project distinct from anything else out there.”

How does he integrate Mexican sounds into Dark Techno? โ–พ

Lex Algorithm deconstructs traditional Mexican brass and trumpets, treating them as raw oscillators. By pitching them down and using saturation, he creates industrial textures that maintain their Latin identity while functioning within a techno framework.

What is the significance of the LED mask? โ–พ

The mask symbolises the anonymity of the algorithm and light within the darkness. It allows Lex to remove the artist’s ego from the performance, forcing the audience to focus on the sonic journey and cultural depth of the music.

How were AI vocals used in the debut EP? โ–พ

Lex used AI to generate cold, detached spoken-word vocals about systems and logic. These raw textures were then warped, sliced, and processed in Ableton Live to achieve a hybrid human-machine pulse.
