Logiztik Sounds & David Montenegro – Halo Moon (Manual Music)

Paul Hazendonk’s Manual Music returns this week following what was one of this year’s finest releases. The first single from Paul’s upcoming ‘Adapt’ LP hit the streets just two weeks ago and it’s given electronic music fans an idea of just how exceptional the impending long players is. This week Manual looks to build on that great momentum with the third single from Logiztik Sounds’ ‘Metamorphosis’ album which was released in April of 2013. ‘Halo Moon’ was the seventh cut on the LP and it was also the collections lone collaboration as it was produced in conjunction with David Montenegro. The new remixes are provided by Khen and Teho which promise to be exceptional as both producers have been hotly tipped of late.

The spacey, melodic techno of the original mix still sounds quite inspired even given that it’s now over a year old. The metallic lines and titanium beats were a highlight on the album and provide a trippy resonance to get this package off to a great start. As eerie and warped as the overall mood is at times the slow rolling vortex of keys has a unique inner beauty. The depraved modulation and funky foundation more than brings that out during the records exhilarating second half peak. It was one of the standout tracks from ‘Metamorphosis’ so it’s great to see it getting a much deserved single release.

The first remix is provided Khen who is making his debut appearance on Manual Music. The Israeli producer was one of 2013’s brightest stars. His productions for Sudbeat, Proton, Hope and more recently Asymmetric have been exceptional and he’s crafted another beauty here. Once again Khen has delivered something that is much more accessible to a broader range of dance floors. It’s all in the groove here and Khen’s bass lines always have this energetic hop that still remains on the right side of cool. He’s gone a step further with the melodic themes as well with the second half slowly evolving into a shimmering beauty that will be a highlight of any set no doubt. Great work once again from Khen.

The second and final remix on the release comes from Teho who is also making his first appearance on Manual after several for their MNL and Cinematique divisions. The French producer has been a much revered craftsman when it comes to melody and his interpretation here is no exception. With a much more hypnotic take on the original Teho has produced a true beast of record. The looped sections of keys build some amazing tension while a growing complement of grinding tones escalate to truly unexpected proportions. It’s bold, brave, creative and most importantly it totally works in providing a very intense climax. Massive stuff from Teho and another exceptional release from Manual Music.
