Manual Music’s latest welcomes Luis Junior back to the label with ‘Pink Clouds’.
The Spanish producer made his debut on the Dutch imprint in a big way with ‘Karma Calling’. Released in August of 2014 it was the beginning of a long run of incredible productions for Luis. Originals and remixes for Tulipa and Yoshitoshi soon followed and now we get one of Luis’ all time best productions in ‘Pink Clouds’.
There are always a wealth of sonic delights to wrap your head around when listening to a new Luis Junior production and ‘Pink Clouds’ is no different. A first act of meticulous beats and granular design slowly evolves into something incredibly compelling. Funky bass stabs, haunting vocal wails and meandering keys all fuel a delicate melodic story board. A main break filled with anticipation and intrigue just adds to the experience and makes for a very emotional third act. Exceptional music from Luis and in my opinion one of his all time best.
The first interpretation of ‘Pink Clouds’ is provided by Van Did who is making his first appearance on Manual Music. The Montreal based producer and Grrreat Records label boss has been one of Canada’s most interesting producers for several years. Dating back to his early work on Inlab Recordings in 2012 all the way up to a recent appearance on Sudbeat Music there is something unique and alluring about all of Van Did’s productions. His interpretation of ‘Pink Clouds’ stays quite true to the original and points the motifs more directly at the dance floor with great success. The warm bass swells sound fabulous and the textural sheets have been roughened up just a touch for even more character. It’s the heartrending vocal elements which are most alluring here though, some of the most haunting wails which get accentuated even further over top of all those perfect sonic designs. Beautiful work from Van Did.
The second and final interpretation of ‘Pink Clouds’ is provided by Hamed Safi aka Beat Syndrome who is making his second appearance on Manual Music. The Canadian producer was chosen as one of the winner’s for labels Timo Chinala ‘Andromeda’ remix competition early last year and has since appeared on Baroque Records, Mooseekaa and Sudbeat. Most recently Hamed released his ‘Magnolia’ single through Asymmetric Recordings which showcased more unique designs and a modern flair. His ‘Pink Clouds’ interpretation continues that trend with a stripped down drummy rework that complements the previous two versions quite well. The main motifs are teased over the first act and main break which creates a sensational vibe but it’s the powerful and punchy third act that’s really going to do damage on the dance floor. An amazing interpretation from Beat Syndrome which rounds this release out on a high note. Top shelf material once again from Manual Music. Don’t miss it.
