The much anticipated launch of Hookah Records finds Madloch kicking the label off in style with his latest single entitled ‘Bluebird Day’.
The Belgian producer has been busier than ever this year with several collaborative projects getting released on Inlab Records and his own Sound Avenue imprint. It’s been over two years since Madloch has released a solo production so it will not only be a delight for his loyal followers but gets Hookah Records off to a great start with fresh remixes from Kastis Torrau and Hot TuneiK.
‘Bluebird Day’ surfaced sometime this past summer when a YouTube video of Hernan Cattaneo playing the track began circulating amongst the progressive diehards. It’s warm, fluid energy has been delighting crowds ever since and was subsequently charted by Hernan in early August. Now as the timeless beauty finally sees the light the of day it’s never sounded better. Full of indistinct motifs and washed out keys it’s a musical collage which is quite inviting. The sum of its parts is very powerful and Madloch does a great job keeping it cool, classy and serene. A joy to listen or dance to no doubt. Lovely work from the Sound Avenue label boss.
The first interpretation of ‘Bluebird Day’ is provided by Lithuanian artist Kastis Torrau. Long regarded as one of his countries foremost electronic music talents Kastis first rose to prominence as the winner of Sasha’s Burn Studios remix competition. Years later he continues to be one of the underground’s most in demand artists and he’s no stranger to Madloch have delivered countless originals and remixes for the Belgian producer’s Sound Avenue imprint. For his ‘Bluebird Day’ interpretation’ Kastis has worked his unrivalled, groovy magic into the piece for an all out club bomb. The hypnotic sensibilities are absolutely deadly as the track gains momentum and a bevy of strong tonal elements locks the groove down a few notches further. What’s a bit surprising is how Kastis managed to convey the effortless emotional drift from the original, it’s not a sound profile you generally associate with his productions which usually work on the basis of pristinely produced grooves, but there’s a serene cadence here which represents the original really well. Just an excellent remix from Kastis.
The second and final interpretation of ‘Bluebird Day’ is provided Hot TuneiK who has quickly become one of Mexico’s most recognizable progressive house producers. Introduced to electronic music through artists like Paul Van Dyk Hot TuneiK eventually discovered Sasha and Digweed, and not long after Guy J which changed his musical taste pretty quickly. Now immersed in Mexico’s electronic music culture Hot works with the infamous Hookah group and also heads up their new digital imprint. His productions have grown leaps and bounds this year and he’s delivered a beauty for his ‘Bluebird Day’ interpretation here. The main themes are well conveyed which the Mexican’s funk fuelled groove carries wonderfully. It’s playful and housy in all the right ways and once that lead motif descends over the framework you’re lifted up to the heavens pretty quickly. A well crafted break only adds to its brilliance with luminous keys before an angelic drift eventually gives way to the chugging groove. Awesome remix from Hot TuneiK and one hell of a brilliant first release from Hookah Records. Keep a close eye on this label going forward, you won’t be disappointed.
