Marcelo Paladini – Gumdrops (Agara Music)

Travis MacDonald’s Agara Music returns this week after what was arguably the labels most gorgeous release to date. Flying Point’s ‘Our Story’ EP was some of the most stunning electronica we’ve heard all year and it showed the labels unique music policy as well. This week Marcelo Paladini returns to the label for his first single entitled ‘Gumdrops’ which comes with a remix from his frequent studio partner Matias Vila.

The ‘Gumdrops’ original is a marvellously crafted deep, progressive house cut. A set of soft, bubbly bass tones make up a heavenly sounding bottom end while twinkly keys and haunting electronics complement the groove perfectly. The amazing thing here is how well it flows and how seamless all the transitions are. There are a wealth of great melodic ideas and they all flow together like one smooth story. Lovely work from Marcelo.

The lone remix comes from Matias Vila who is also making his second appearance on Agara here. Matias works in conjunction with Marcelo quite regularly and together the pair have appeared on Sound Avenue, Crossfade Sounds, Sangria and Stripped Digital. For his ‘Gumdrops’ interpretation Matias has delivered a much deeper rework that complements the original really well. A sultry framework sits at the foundation while cool vocal elements and funky melodic hooks provide some serious aural magic. The musicality is just incredible and the sexy groove sounds ideal for a back room or lounge type vibe. Outstanding stuff from Matias and a great package from Agara. Highly Recommended.
