Mariano Mellino & Dassie present their latest studio creation ‘Kai Jin’ which includes remixes from Erdi Irmak and Praveen Achary.
Lonya’s Asymmetric Recordings returns this week following its two part ADE sampler which saw much success in the Beatport charts. The Israeli imprint’s latest sees the return of Mariano Mellino. The Argentinean producer last appeared on Asymmetric with a contribution to the labels ‘5 Years Of’ compilation and has since had his work showcased on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeats Volume 2 collection. For his second outing on Asymmetric Mariano has teamed up with sometime studio partner Dassie. In the past the pair have been showcased on Movement Recordings and Lowbit Records. Their latest studio creation is entitled ‘Kai Jin’ and it comes with remixes from Erdi Irmak and Praveen Achary.
The original mix kicks the release off with a percussive, tech house vibe which seems perfectly dialed for the dance floor. The tribal drums immediately stand out along with some unique vocal elements and a three tone hook. As the track begins taking shape some stark electronics and a wavering backdrop add some wonderful atmosphere. The main break proves to be a great showcase for the mallet-like tones and also the trippy vocals which essentially summon the return of the percussive groove for a nice finish. Solid original work from Mariano and Dassie.
The first remix is supplied by Erdi Irmak who is returning to Asymmetric Recordings for his third overall appearance. The Turkish producers first outing on the label was met with some amazing fan fare as it was played by Guy Mantzur on John Digweed’s famed Transitions radio show. More recently Erdi has completed an EP for Hugo Ibarra and Uvo’s Intemporal Music which is due out later this month. For his ‘Kai Jin’ interpretation Erdi has delivered his own unique techno twist on the track. With a modernized groove and radical revamp of the drum elements Erdi has produced a smooth hypnotic gem here. Gorgeous melodic cascades add some wonderful highlights along the way and the strength of Erdi’s shuffling groove carries the production nicely. Top notch remix!
The second and final interpretation of ‘Kai Jin’ is provided by Praveen Achary who is making his debut on Asymmetric Recordings. Easily one of India’s most recognizable electronic music figures Praveen has had another great year in 2014. His Juicebox Music show on friskyRadio remains one of the stations most popular programs and his recent ‘Kibou’ single on Nikko.Z’s Dopamine Music has been a production highlight. For his ‘Kai Jin’ interpretation Praveen has delivered a deeper and groovier alternative to the original which really stands out here. It’s well carved foundation, crisp drums and great rhythmic complement work together in perfect unison. For a track that’s somewhat deep and more groove oriented it does comes with quite a few big moments though. The drummy builds that are scattered throughout up the energy nicely and should invoke a massive reaction on the dance floor. Excellent stuff from Praveen which rounds out an on the money release for Asymmetric Recordings. Don’t miss it.
