Matchy & Bott’s unique blend of tech house, progressive and melodic techno has really been hitting the spot of late. We caught up with the Frankfurt based duo for a quick chat…

Hi guys, tell us about you

Martin (Matchy): I’m turning 29 and have been producing electronic music for nearly 15 years now. I actually started producing rap beats with Reason back then but quickly changed to electronic music and soon after started djing as well. Currently living in Darmstadt, Germany again, where I was born and which is pretty close to Frankfurt. Besides our studio is in the basement where I live.

Yannik (Bott): I’m 27 and live in Mainz.. producing for 5-6 years now and djing at least 10 years.

What made you both decide to get in to music?

(Martin): can’t really tell how long I’ve been into Techno now but I remember recording Techno tracks from the radio on tape.

(Yannik) My parents already liked Techno back in the days so it was a no brainer that I am kinda into this music as well.

Where was your first gig?

Matchy & Bott: (Yannik): It was in my home town Mainz, in a small basement club called 50 Grad, which means 50 degrees and pretty much describes the temperature in the club.

How did you get started producing? 

(Martin) since I played piano for a couple of years it wasn’t too difficult apart from the technical stuff, EQing etc… still not loving that, I’m more into composing and arranging.

Talk to us about your latest release and the inspiration behind it.

(Martin) Given some personal incidences my aim was to create something more slower, emotional and a little bit poignant. I think we did that with this track.

What’s the music scene like in Frankfurt and how often are you playing?

(Yanik) Frankfurt has a pretty agile and big music scene with several great bars with electronic music in the neighborhood around the central station and clubs like Atelier or Tanzhaus West, where we dj regularly.

Which other DJs or producers are you liking right now?

Matchy & Bott: Third Son, Adriatique, Victor Ruiz, Thomas Schumacher, Oliver Huntemann …

What are your go to labels?

Matchy & Bott: Stil vor Talent, Noir, Senso and many more.. those releases never disappoint.

Tell us about your DJ setup

Matchy & Bott: We keep it simple.. USB sticks and headphones. But we’re currently considering playing live as well in the future.

What’s been your biggest achievement so far?

We’re happy to be part of the Katermukke family and are really proud of the releases we’ve made with them over the last 4 years, not forgetting to mention all the great gigs and festivals we’ve done for them too.

What can we expect from you both soon?

Matchy & Bott: we’re super focused on what we’re doing right now, so we’re just gonna keep on going and see what happens next. We’re spending a lot of time in the studio and working on an album as well 🙂 We’re also gonna be working harder to keep our social media up to date 🙂
