Michael A

The latest release on Balkan Connection welcomes Michael A back to the label for a brand new EP.

Michael A

The Belarus based producer is fresh off the release of his ‘Subbermud’ single just last week on his Genesis Music imprint. Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J have recently supported Micheal’s work and his new EP for Balkan Connection features two of his finest originals alongside a remix from label artist GMJ.

The release gets underway with ‘Demain’ which gets the EP off to a tough and crunchy beginning. It’s rough synths prove to be great hooks as the infectious groove builds momentum early. A spoken word storyboard then takes the track to a dramatic break before the disco infused groove returns in a big way. It’s a storming finish lead by those growling synths, scattered claps and a haunting vocal pad which lifts the tune a notch higher, one of the biggest in Michael’s career.

The companion piece ‘EDGE’ comes with a similar feel but is perhaps a touch deeper and groovier. Forceful bass stabs and bubbly rhythms carve out a great groove while some buzzy synths further tantalize the senses. As the track reaches the four minute mark a more distinctive yet dreamy motif carries it into the break. Following a meandering interlude the rhythmic profile of track gets a facelift with a deeper, groovier conclusion that should do damage on the floor. Brilliant work again from Michael.

The lone interpretation of ‘EDGE’ is provided by GMJ who is making his sixth appearance on Balkan Connection. The Aussie producer has been quite prolific this year with over ten new productions thus far. He’s been an integral part of Balkan Connection since he made his label debut with a remix of Sjoerd Korsuize in February of 2014. For his ‘EDGE’ interpretation GMJ has transformed the track into a rolling proggy beast. The cascading bass stabs and swirling noise are a deadly combination while the downright sinister designs keep things fresh throughout. It’s a monster remix form GMJ who continues to be one of the exciting producers in the progressive underground. An excellent way to round out another superb release on Balkan Connection. Don’t miss it.
