Michael A – Scatter (Balkan Connection)

The latest release from Balkan Connection continues the label’s strong momentum with a new single from Michael A.

michael a scatter

The Belarus based producer is making his 12th appearance on the label and ‘Scatter’ marks his third single which follows ‘No Cheats’ and ‘Intelligences’ from 2013.

It’s a big week for Michael as he not only contributed to the Perspectives Digital ADE Sampler but ‘Scatter’ ranks right up there with his best work. If you follow Michael’s productions you know he often delivers two versions and he’s done that here as well. The main mix boasts some ultra clean production and a very refined progressive approach. Delicate rhythms and a warm rolling groove dominate here while his Reconstruction mix strips things down a touch further for an even more refined result. Two quality versions which should fine favour on a variety of dance floors.

The first remix on the release is provided by Namatjira who is making his third appearance on Balkan Connection. Last week saw the release of the Dutch producer’s long awaited remix of Subsky ‘Strawberry Fields’ which was played by Nick Warren. He continues on a roll here with a great interpretation of ‘Scatter’. Namatjira’s done a great job reinventing the track with a much housier sensibility. The progressive edge has been taken off the record to a degree so it complements the original version very well. The highlight for me is the breakdown; it’s subtle beauty and general sense of serenity is perfect before the warm beats drop back in. Great remix from Namatjira.

The second and final interpretation is provided by Matias Chilano who is returning to Balkan Connection for his 12th appearance. The Argentinean producer has been a bit quieter than we’re used to in recent months and that makes his remix here all the more welcome. Matias’ trademark atmospheres have lent themselves well to ‘Scatter’ as his interpretation has been a DJ favourite at least based on the feedback. An irresistibly smooth groove, drifting vocal elements and a radiate backdrop all shine here and make it one of Matias’ best productions this year. Armin Van Buuren, John OO Fleming and Darin Epsilon have all chimed in with their support as well so you know it’s one not to miss. Great release from Balkan Connection who have really been putting out excellent progressive music since their 300th release.
